Role SummaryThe Buyer will be responsible for the procurement of materials, equipment, and services necessary for solar and BESS projects. This role involves sourcing suppliers, negotiating contracts, ensuring cost‑effectiveness, and maintaining relationships with key vendors to optimize the supply chain process.
Essential Job Function & Responsibilities- Source, evaluate, and select suppliers for solar panels, inverters, racking systems, and other essential materials.
- Negotiate pricing, terms, and contracts with vendors to achieve cost savings and quality assurance.
- Manage purchase orders, track shipments, and ensure timely delivery of materials to project sites.
- Collaborate with estimating, pre‑construction, engineering and construction teams to align procurement with project schedules.
- Monitor supplier performance, address any issues, and develop long‑term vendor relationships.
- Stay updated on market trends, pricing fluctuations, and new technologies in solar, BESS procurement.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, industry regulations, and sustainability standards.
- Maintain accurate procurement records, reports, and documentation.
- Create purchase orders in the company’s ERP system; verify, prepare, and forward purchase orders.
- Process purchase orders and ensure timely delivery of materials. Track and expedite orders as necessary.
- Monitor vendor performance to ensure on‑time delivery of material to project sites.
- Create and run purchasing reports per project.
- Communicate material status to project managers and elevate potential supply chain risks to project teams.
- Conduct RFQ projects in collaboration with estimating, pre‑construction and construction teams.
- Interact with various internal departments to improve our current material procurement practices to provide excellent service for internal customers.
- Work with the construction team to ensure suppliers are delivering according to contract provisions.
- Collaborate with estimating to keep bids current, accurate and competitive.
- Ensure that the Company’s best interests are represented, including profitability and cost control.
- Understand and comply with industry‑specific professional and ethical conduct standards, if applicable.
- Identify potential risks in the supply chain and develop mitigation strategies.
- Prepare and present regular reports on procurement activities, supplier performance, and cost savings to management.
- Complies with all company policies.
- All other duties as assigned or deemed appropriate.
- Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, Purchasing, Finance, Engineering or related field; combination of relevant education and experience considered in lieu of degree.
- Minimum of 3‑5 years of experience in procurement, preferably in the renewable energy or manufacturing industry.
- Strong understanding of purchasing and procurement processes.
- Proficiency in procurement software and ERP systems.
- Strong negotiation, analytical, and communication skills.
- Ability to carry out financial analyses, evaluations, and recommendations.
- Ability to manage time efficiently and adapt quickly to changing priorities.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Experience with the technical side of purchasing materials as it relates to the solar, substations and/or storage industry is desirable.
