Clayton Services is searching for a Process Engineer – Automation & Systems Integration with strong experience in process design, automation integration, and ABB control systems to support the development, optimization, and execution of industrial process systems. This role bridges process engineering and automation
, working closely with controls, mechanical, and operations teams to design efficient, reliable, and safe process solutions.

Process Engineer – Automation & Systems Integration Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, and optimize industrial process systems to improve efficiency, safety, and reliability
- Support automation design and execution for process systems, including integration with ABB DCS/PLC platforms
- Develop and maintain process flow diagrams (PFDs), P&IDs, and control narratives
- Collaborate with automation and controls engineers to ensure proper implementation of process control strategies
- Perform process modeling and simulation using Aspen HYSYS
- Conduct hydraulic and flow analysis using Pipe-Flo
- Support equipment and piping layout design using Autodesk Inventor
- Participate in HAZOPs, process hazard analyses, and design reviews
- Support commissioning, startup, and troubleshooting of automated process systems
- Work cross-functionally with operations, maintenance, and project teams to support continuous improvement initiatives
- Other duties as assigned
Skills and Abilities:
- Strong understanding of process engineering principles and unit operations
- Knowledge of process controls, instrumentation, and automation integration
- Experience supporting or integrating ABB DCS/PLC systems
- Proficiency with Aspen HYSYS for process simulation and modeling
- Experience using Pipe-Flo for hydraulic and flow analysis
- Working knowledge of Autodesk Inventor for equipment and piping design
- Ability to develop and interpret PFDs, P&IDs, and control narratives
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills
- Effective communication and cross-functional collaboration abilities
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline
- 5+ years of experience in a Process Engineer role within an industrial or manufacturing environment
- Experience supporting automation system design and execution
- Experience working on capital projects, system upgrades, or process improvements
- Exposure to commissioning and startup of automated process systems
