Your Impact

As a Specialist, you will be based in Houston as part of our Oil and Gas Practice and specifically the Petroleum Asset eXcellence (PAX) team. This team is dedicated to transforming the performance of upstream and downstream petroleum assets.

You will help clients to unlock the full potential of these assets through a combination of technical and management consulting, leveraging McKinsey's extensive global experience and proprietary tools.

You will work as a team member on client projects focused on oil and gas operations, transformation, and improvement programs.

You will provide analytical support to teams through the development and application of our proprietary oil and gas models. You will collaborate closely with client executives and other McKinsey colleagues to develop recommendations based on the findings and ultimately drive implementation and change.

You will participate in client development for both current and new clients through meetings and workshops on topics of interest. You will write proposals for new client engagements as well as participate in or lead key internal knowledge building initiatives, conferences, and client workshops.

Your work will help shape the future of the oil and gas industry through operational excellence and innovative solutions.

Your Qualifications and Skills
  • Undergraduate degree in engineering or a related discipline required with preference in petroleum, reservoir or geology engineering focus; advanced graduate degree (e.g., MBA, masters) preferred
  • 4+ years of experience in the oil and gas industry with a focus on upstream operations, reservoir engineering, production engineering or drilling and completions
  • Strong career progression with track record of outstanding performance
  • Proven record of participating in or leading successful change management and operational improvement projects
  • Excellent organizational capabilities, including the ability to initiate tasks independently and see them through to completion
  • Proficient in rational decision making based on data, facts, and logical reasoning
  • Ability to create work product-focused materials / outputs, which may include PowerPoint decks, Excel models, articles, or other written deliverables
  • Exceptional time management to meet your responsibilities in a complex and largely autonomous work environment
  • Ability to work or attend meetings outside of traditional business hours or take on projects with limited or no notice at times
  • Ability to travel to and work in varying environments that may be challenging and/or not accessible (e.g., factories, hospitals, mines)
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, in English and local office language(s), with the ability to adjust your style to suit different perspectives and seniority levels
