Application Engineer

Location: Texas (DFW, San Antonio, Houston)

Employment Type: Full-Time

Role Summary

This position is ideal for a hands-on machining professional who enjoys applying technical expertise to real-world manufacturing challenges. As an Application Engineer, you will support customers throughout Texas by developing and implementing advanced machining and tooling solutions that improve efficiency, consistency, and overall performance.

You’ll work closely with customers and internal commercial and engineering teams to evaluate machining processes, recommend improvements, and deliver measurable results on the shop floor.

Key Responsibilities Machining & Application Engineering
  • Develop, test, and refine machining applications across turning, milling, drilling, and threading
  • Create optimized machining strategies focused on cycle time reduction, tool life improvement, and part quality
  • Leverage CAM software and simulation tools to validate machining approaches and tool paths
  • Provide practical field feedback to engineering teams regarding tooling performance, materials, and coatings
Customer-Facing Technical Support
  • Partner with sales teams to support customer opportunities through technical expertise
  • Visit customer facilities to evaluate machining processes and identify improvement opportunities
  • Lead or assist with tooling trials, process validation, and troubleshooting
  • Train customer personnel on tooling applications, machining best practices, and new technologies
Engineered & Custom Tooling
  • Collaborate with design and engineering resources to adapt or develop tools for specific applications
  • Create application documentation including cutting parameters, process recommendations, and reports
  • Evaluate the feasibility, performance, and value of engineered tooling solutions
Project & Performance Management
  • Manage multiple customer engagements and technical priorities simultaneously
  • Track performance metrics such as productivity gains, cycle time reductions, and cost savings
  • Identify opportunities to improve internal processes, documentation, and knowledge-sharing methods
Analysis, Reporting & Knowledge Capture
  • Collect and analyze performance data from field trials and production environments
  • Document application results, best practices, and success stories
  • Share insights internally to support continuous improvement and commercial strategies
Industry Engagement & Technical Growth
  • Stay current with advancements in machining technologies, materials, coatings, and digital manufacturing
  • Participate in trade shows, training sessions, and technical workshops
  • Monitor competitive tooling strategies to support effective solution positioning
Professional Representation
  • Serve as a trusted technical resource for customers and internal teams
  • Maintain high standards of professionalism, ethics, and technical credibility
  • Continuously expand knowledge of tooling technologies and machining applications
Qualifications & Experience
  • Formal technical training in machining, manufacturing, or mechanical disciplines or equivalent industry experience
  • Typically 3–5+ years of hands-on experience in machining, toolmaking, or manufacturing operations
  • Strong working knowledge of metal cutting processes, particularly turning, milling, and drilling
  • Experience supporting technical solutions in customer-facing or B2B manufacturing environments preferred
  • Ability to interpret part drawings and analyze machining conditions
  • Strong communication skills with a consultative, customer-focused approach
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office; CRM experience is a plus
  • Willingness to travel throughout the assigned Texas territory
  • Fluent in written and spoken English
