Position Summary
We are seeking a highly accomplished Senior Principal Scientist with more than 20 years of experience in advanced materials development, chemical formulation, and applications engineering for the oil and gas industry. The ideal candidate is a recognized technical authority who has led innovation across drilling, completion, production, or integrity‑related chemical and material systems. This role will drive strategic technology development, mentor multidisciplinary teams, and support deployment of novel chemical and materials solutions across global operations.
Key Responsibilities Technical Leadership & Innovation- Lead the design, synthesis, and evaluation of new chemical systems, advanced materials, and functional additives for drilling, completion, stimulation, cementing, and production applications.
- Develop and optimize high‑performance materials (e.g., polymers, elastomers, composites, nanomaterials) tailored for HPHT and challenging downhole conditions.
- Guide research on fluid–material interactions
, corrosion mitigation, scaling chemistry, lost circulation materials, and well integrity solutions. - Oversee material characterization using advanced analytical techniques (e.g., rheology, thermal analysis, spectroscopy, microscopy).
- Set R&D roadmaps, define technical milestones, and lead multi‑discipline technology development programs.
- Partner with other research teams to develop novel technologies that support company’s goal to reduce lifting cost and improve safety.
- Evaluate emerging technologies, identify strategic opportunities, and build business cases for investment.
- Provide scientific mentorship to scientists, engineers, and research technicians.
- Collaborate with external partners including universities, suppliers, and technology providers.
- Represent the organization in technical committees, conferences, and strategic partnerships.
- PhD in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Polymer Science, or related discipline.
- 20+ years of directly relevant R&D experience in oil and gas chemicals or materials development.
- Demonstrated expertise in:
- Drilling, completion, or production chemistry
- Advanced materials for harsh environments
- Formulation science and materials performance optimization
- Strong publication/patent record and recognized technical authority in the industry.
- Proven leadership of scientific teams and multi‑disciplinary R&D programs.
- Experience with digitalization, data‑driven materials discovery.
- Knowledge of regulatory frameworks, HSSE compliance, and sustainability requirements.
- Prior involvement in technology commercialization, licensing, or IP strategy.
- Strategic thinking and innovation leadership
- Deep technical expertise in chemical and materials science
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills
- Excellent communication for both executive and technical audiences
- Ability to influence across organizational boundaries
- Project and portfolio management excellence
