Project Engineer – Power & Industrial Systems Integration (Electrical + Mechanical Focus)

An engineering and manufacturing organization is seeking a Project Engineer to support the execution of integrated electrical equipment systems used in energy and industrial applications. This role blends electrical power engineering with mechanical system design
, ensuring that complex equipment packages are not only electrically sound, but also structurally robust, manufacturable, transportable, and installation-ready.

You will work across engineering, fabrication, and project execution teams to deliver fully integrated equipment solutions such as switch gear assemblies, motor control centers, and packaged electrical buildings. The position requires equal attention to electrical functionality and the mechanical/structural framework that enables these systems to operate reliably in demanding environments.

• Produce complete engineering design packages for Electrical Equipment Centers and similar systems, incorporating:
• Electrical distribution and control systems
• Mechanical assembly design and equipment layout
• Structural support framing and anchorage
• Equipment mounting, access platforms, and service clearances
• Cable management systems and raceways
• Environmental systems such as HVAC and thermal management
• Perform design load calculations including equipment weight, seismic/wind considerations, lifting forces, and transportation stresses.
• Ensure proper integration of major power equipment (MV/LV switch gear, MCCs, transformers, and customer-supplied equipment) into mechanically sound assemblies.

• Develop and review mechanical layouts to ensure constructability, maintainability, and safe access for operations.
• Design equipment support structures, skid bases, and internal framing to withstand operational and shipping loads.
• Coordinate enclosure penetrations, mounting details, and structural reinforcements required for electrical and auxiliary systems.
• Evaluate vibration, heat dissipation, and spatial constraints to ensure long-term reliability of installed equipment.
• Collaborate with manufacturing teams to optimize designs for fabrication efficiency, welding, and assembly sequencing.
• Ensure compatibility between mechanical fabrication drawings and electrical installation requirements.

• Serve as the primary technical contact throughout the project lifecycle.
• Lead coordination between electrical, mechanical, and drafting teams to maintain design alignment.
• Track scope, schedule milestones, and engineering deliverables to support project execution goals.
• Develop technical bills of material and support procurement with accurate specifications for both electrical and mechanical components.

• Interface with project management, supply chain, manufacturing, and quality teams to ensure designs transition smoothly into production.
• Coordinate with customers, vendors, and third-party specialists to resolve interdisciplinary challenges.
• Support document control processes and manage drawing/submittal workflows.

• Develop project-specific inspection and test plans aligned with contractual requirements.
• Assist with factory acceptance testing and validation of assembled systems.
• Ensure all mechanical and electrical systems meet applicable codes, specifications, and operational expectations.
• Drive resolution of punch list items and support project closeout documentation.

• Experience designing or supporting industrial power distribution systems (600V through medium voltage).
• Strong understanding of mechanical integration of electrical equipment

• Knowledge of switch gear, MCCs, and protection/control systems.
• Familiarity with structural considerations for heavy equipment installations.
• Working knowledge of NEC installation practices and industrial construction methods.
• Ability to interpret and coordinate mechanical fabrication drawings with electrical schematics.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD and familiarity with 3D mechanical modeling tools such as Solid Works (or similar).
• Experience with power system analysis tools such as SKM or ETAP is a plus.
• Familiarity with relay configuration software (SEL, GE Multilin) preferred.

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
• Minimum of 5 years of Project Engineering experience in industrial manufacturing, packaged equipment, or power systems environments.
• Demonstrated experience working across both electrical and mechanical scopes on engineered-to-order equipment.
• Familiarity with ANSI, NEMA, and IEC standards.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred but not required.
