We are seeking a talented EMI/EMC Analysis, Design, and Test Engineer for Space Exploration Avionics Systems to join our JETS II contract team at NASA Johnson Space Center in Houston, TX. If selected, you will contribute to a mission-driven program focused on space exploration while benefiting people on Earth.
Responsibilities- Report directly to the Electronics and Electrical Section Manager as part of a group of engineers.
- Work with NASA engineers and industry partners to support spaceflight avionics systems.
- Assist in planning, executing, and analyzing EMI/EMC tests on electronic hardware at NASA JSC and external facilities.
- Contribute to test plans, procedures, and reports, while learning from experienced EMI/EMC engineers.
- Support design reviews, risk assessments, and system integration across avionics, power, RF, and mechanical teams.
- Gain hands-on experience with test equipment, circuit design reviews, and EMI/EMC compliance methods.
- Learn and apply industry and NASA standards (e.g., MIL-STD-461) to real-world projects.
- Typically requires a bachelor's degree in Engineering and 5-10 years of related experience, with flexibility for multiple levels.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Physics from an accredited institution; 5-15 years of experience.
- Coursework in electromagnetics (EM) and/or electronic design.
- Collaborative, self-motivated, and team-oriented with strong communication and organizational skills.
- Master of Science or PhD degree from an accredited institution.
- Experience with space, military, or commercial EMI/EMC design, test planning, execution, and mitigation.
- Knowledge of EMI/EMC compliance design and testing per MIL-STD-461 and MIL-STD-464.
- Hands-on experience with EMI/EMC laboratory equipment:
Spectrum Analyzers, RF amplifiers, signal generators, EMI receivers, antennas, directional couplers, power meters. - Experience specifying test hardware (oscilloscopes, multi-meters, logic analyzers, function generators, power supplies, etc.).
- Basic understanding of RF design, circuit theory, shielding, filters, magnetics, microwaves, and antennas.
- Understanding of EMC problems such as radiated emissions, ESD, RF susceptibility, power disturbances, and cross-talk.
- Experience reviewing schematics, PCB layouts, and mechanical designs for EMI mitigation.
- Experience with Satellite Space Systems or Spacecraft Vehicle design and test.
- Ability to create test plans and write test reports per customer requirements.
- Certification in iNARTE EMC/EMI engineer or equivalent.
- Experience with filtering, bonding, grounding, and shielding methods for EMI/EMC performance and compliance.
- Experience with analysis tools such as SPICE, MATLAB/Simulink, Mathcad, LabVIEW, and other EMI/EMC tools.
- Experience generating EMI/EMC Control and Verification Plans.
- Previous experience with NASA spaceflight project development.
- Experience in MIL-STD analysis of EMI testing results for radiated and conducted emissions and susceptibility.
- Experience with EMI test setups and support equipment, including chamber antennas and bonding/grounding setups.
- Experience in corona discharge and plasma effects, lightning protection, and bonding/grounding techniques.
- Proficiency with MS Office programs, including MS Project, Excel, PowerPoint, Word, One Note, and Outlook.
