Job Description & How to Apply Below
Mechanical Design Engineer – Advanced Clean Energy Hardware
Houston, TX
Want to be the engineer who takes a breakthrough clean‑energy concept and turns it into real, working hardware? This is a chance to join a high‑growth energy technology company as their first dedicated Mechanical Design Engineer
, owning mechanical design for a new class of compact, continuous‑power systems.
You’ll work end‑to‑end on complex electromechanical assemblies that must run reliably 24/7 — from first CAD model, through prototyping on the shop floor, to production‑ready designs.
What you’ll be doing- Own mechanical design from day one – Lead 3D CAD modeling, assemblies, and detailed drawings for critical system components, enclosures, and supporting structures (Solid Works or similar).
- Turn concepts into hardware quickly – Build, assemble, and refine prototypes; debug issues hands‑on in the lab and workshop; feed what you learn straight back into the next design iteration.
- Engineer robust, safe, and manufacturable systems – Balance performance, cost, reliability, and safety while designing for real‑world operating conditions and scalable manufacturing.
- Collaborate across disciplines – Work closely with electrical, process, and materials engineers to make sure mechanical, thermal, and electrical requirements all align at the system level.
- Help define the way the team works – Establish mechanical standards, documentation practices, and CAD/PDM workflows suitable for a hardware organization that’s preparing to scale.
- Solid background in Mechanical Engineering (degree or equivalent industry experience) with a track record of designing real hardware
, not just modeling. - Very strong 3D CAD skills (ideally Solid Works): complex assemblies, detailed drawings, tolerancing, and familiarity with simulation tools for stress/thermal/motion analysis.
- Hands‑on experience with prototyping and fabrication – comfortable working with shops, vendors, and test equipment to get parts built, assembled, and validated.
- Experience contributing to multidisciplinary systems – e.g., electromechanical, thermal, or structural systems where mechanical design interacts closely with electronics and controls.
- Self‑directed, comfortable in an early‑stage, lean environment where you own your area, set priorities, and drive work through to completion.
- Designing sealed or submerged enclosures
, IP‑rated housings, O‑ring and gasket selection, or underwater / harsh‑environment packaging. - Exposure to radiation‑tolerant or highly regulated hardware (e.g., nuclear, medical, aerospace) where containment, shielding, or compliance are key design considerations.
- Be the founding mechanical engineer on a technology with potential for large‑scale climate and energy impact.
- Direct, visible ownership of core systems — your work will be on every unit that ships.
- Competitive compensation and benefits, with significant room to grow your role as the company scales.
