Position Overview

We are seeking a Junior Commodity Engineer based in Houston to support sourcing, supplier coordination, and cost analysis activities within the Supply Chain team. This role is ideal for early-career professionals who are interested in procurement, supplier management, and cost optimization in a manufacturing environment. The Junior Commodity Engineer will work closely with senior engineers, sourcing managers, and cross-functional teams to support daily purchasing and supplier-related initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

Account & Supplier Support

• Support supplier selection, onboarding, and performance tracking under guidance from senior team members

• Assist in maintaining supplier relationships and ensuring suppliers meet basic quality, cost, and delivery requirements

Sourcing & Cost Analysis

• Assist with RFQs, bid comparisons, and basic cost analysis

• Support cost reduction initiatives by collecting data and preparing analysis reports

• Help track commodity pricing trends and supplier quotations

Technical & Process Support

• Support evaluation of supplier technical capabilities, manufacturing processes, and material specifications

• Coordinate with engineering, quality, and operations teams on supplier-related matters

Reporting & Communication

• Prepare sourcing summaries, supplier performance reports, and internal documentation

• Maintain accurate data in procurement and ERP systems

• Communicate with internal teams and suppliers regarding routine purchasing activities

Requirements

Qualifications

Education

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Supply Chain, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field

Professional Experience

• 1-2 years of experience in procurement, supply chain, sourcing, or a related function

• Internship or entry-level experience in manufacturing or purchasing environments is a plus

Skills & Competencies

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

• Basic understanding of procurement or supply chain concepts

• Good communication skills and willingness to learn

• Proficient in Excel and basic data analysis tools

Mobility

• Ability to travel occasionally as needed (up to ~30%)

Preferred Qualifications

• Exposure to supplier management or sourcing projects

• Familiarity with ERP or procurement systems

• Bilingual proficiency (English plus Mandarin or another language) is a plus
