Position Summary

The Engineer I will be part of a Houston‑based team supporting projects performed with Oceaneering's Offshore Projects Group (OPG) installation vessels. The Engineer I is responsible for supporting technical aspects for projects executed predominately in the Gulf of Mexico. Typical work scopes include installations, light construction, diving and inspection, maintenance and repair (IMR) work. Engineering planning is conducted from the Houston office with offshore support as required.

The Engineer I reports to the Installation Engineering Team Lead.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Carry out tasks assigned by Project Engineers and Installation Engineering Team Lead, focusing on technical issues with occasional administrative functions.
  • Responsible for installation engineering of subsea hardware using light construction vessels with ROV and divers, including field and offshore support.
  • Assist in authoring design specifications and test plans for installation equipment and subsea hardware, including equipment location and vendor selection.
  • Conduct engineering calculations and analysis:
    • Perform hand calculations and/or use engineering calculation software.
    • Analyse beam elements and dynamic motion.
  • Assist in authoring design reports, analysis reports, and technical memos.
  • Attend Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) and System Integration Tests (SIT).
  • Assist in preparing presentations, articles, and technical papers.
  • Interface inside and outside meetings with project team members and clients.
  • Perform non‑engineering activities such as oversight of offshore operations and on‑site oversight of OPG projects and subcontractors.
  • Work and travel offshore, both domestic and international.
Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Civil or Ocean Engineering) or equivalent education and experience.
  • Up to two (2) years of engineering experience.
  • Experience with classical analytical methods, MathCAD, AutoCAD, Solid Works, structural analysis packages such as ANSYS or Risa3D.
  • Valid driver's license and passport.
  • Must obtain: TWIC, PEC Basic Training, BOSIET.

Desired:

  • Experience with dynamic analysis program Orcaflex.
  • Experience with conflict resolution and change management.
  • Proficiency with MS Office.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other Characteristics
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, clients, and the public.
  • Strong mathematical skills (algebra, trigonometry, calculus, probability, statistics) applied to engineering.
  • Application of concepts to engineering (statics, dynamics, solid mechanics, strength of materials, fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, structural design, mechanical design, electrical design).
  • Problem solving in varied situations with limited standardization.
  • Interpret a variety of instructions in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Ensure communication of important information from management to employees and others.
  • Give and receive constructive feedback.
  • Keep team and stakeholders informed about developments and plans.
  • Maintain consistent communication within area of responsibility.
Hybrid Work Schedule

This position is hybrid—remote with required commuting to a designated office. Work schedules are determined by the hiring manager based on business needs.
