summary
This is a strategic leadership role designed for a visionary who can bridge the gap between high-level engineering design and field-level execution. You will be responsible for building and leading a newly created EPC and Engineering division, transforming the company into a turnkey partner for utility-scale substation projects. You will oversee the entire project lifecycle from initial concept and engineering through to testing and grid interconnection.
Key Responsibilities- Lead the full project lifecycle for utility-scale substation projects. You are responsible for integrating our legacy T&C expertise with new engineering and procurement capabilities to deliver turnkey solutions
- Oversee greenfield, brownfield and expansion projects (69kV–500kV+), ensuring they are delivered on time, within budget and to the highest industry standards
- Coordinate multidisciplinary teams, including electrical, civil, P&C, SCADA, and construction - while managing external subcontractors and vendors
- Serve as the primary point of contact for electric utilities and renewable energy developers, acting as a trusted advisor from the bid phase through final commissioning
- Lead technical design reviews and ensure all project engineering complies with IEEE, NESC and utility-specific standards
- Manage the supply chain for major substation components (transformers, breakers, control buildings), including contract negotiations and vendor selection
- Monitor construction activities and safety performance, leveraging our background in third-party testing to ensure "commissioning-ready" construction quality.
- Track division profitability, cost forecasting, invoicing and cash flow to ensure the sustainable growth of the EPC operation.
- Support the growth of the new division by leading proposal preparation, cost estimation and technical presentations for future substation and grid-tie opportunities.
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or Construction Management (Master’s preferred)
- 8 to 12+ years in power delivery, with at least 5 years in a leadership role managing utility-scale substation projects (69kV–500kV+)
- Deep knowledge of high voltage substation design, protection & control systems and the nuances ofGrid Interconnection requirements
- Proven track record in EPC or design-build environments; proficient in Primavera P6, MS Project and financial tracking software
- Ability to travel to project sites as needed (~50%)
- Professional Engineer (PE) license strongly preferred
- PMP certification or equivalent
- Experience with renewable energy collector substations (Solar/Wind/BESS) and familiarity with regional operators like ERCOT, PJM, or MISO
- Strong understanding of EPC risk allocation and claims management.
- Medical, Dental and Vision coverage
- Company-paid Life Insurance
- Unlimited PTO
- 401(k) with up to 4% company match
- Health Savings Account (HSA)
- Per diem for overnight/out-of-town assignments
