This position is part of Houston Public Works Engineering, in the Infrastructure and Development Services section, reporting location to the Houston Permitting Center. The role involves architectural and civil utility plan reviews to support the building permit process and the review of Wastewater Capacity Reservation (WCR) applications. The position will prepare WCR letters, including all associated impact fees owed in compliance with the Code of Ordinances and State Laws and Regulations.
Additionally, the incumbent will review all water and sewer permitting services, consult with architects, engineers, contractors, and the public on their preliminary plan design and WCR applications. The candidate will provide precise and comprehensive information regarding the status of customers’ applications and/or plans, entering approval or rejection comments in the database, interfacing with other technical disciplines, departments, and ordinance and regulation enforcement, and providing data entry support for the Infrastructure and Development Services section.
Assistance with open records requests and any other duties as assigned will also be performed.
Routine walking, sitting, occasional stooping or bending, and occasional light lifting up to 40 pounds.
Educational RequirementsAssociate's degree in a related field such as Building Inspection or equivalent.
Experience RequirementsTwo years of skilled, journey level experience in building trades, inspection, or plan examining. Four years of similar experience may substitute for the degree requirement. A bachelor’s degree in construction management, Architecture, Engineering, or a closely related discipline may also substitute for the above requirements.
License RequirementsNone.
Preferred Qualifications- Experience designing or reviewing plans for sanitary sewer and water utilities.
- Proficiency using GIS.
- Excellent technical writing, communication, and research skills; ability to interpret and explain City procedures.
- Eligible veteran applicants.
