Job Description & How to Apply Below

MRI Technologies has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Materials and Processes Engineer on the JETS II contract at NASA Johnson Space Center. In this role, you will advise, guide, and provide consultation on Materials and Processes (M&P) requirements for human spaceflight hardware, working alongside NASA customers, subsystem teams, and cross-disciplinary engineering groups to deliver safe, reliable materials solutions for crewed and uncrewed vehicles supporting the Artemis Program and future deep space exploration.

A typical day involves applying M&P expertise across intravehicular (IVA) and extravehicular (EVA) environments-covering materials selection, process control and qualification, corrosion prevention, electrical bonding, flammability, toxic off gassing, and process specifications. In the morning you may be reviewing engineering drawings, specifications, and vendor processes to ensure M&P requirements flow correctly into spaceflight hardware, or developing verification and validation plans for new designs.

In the afternoon you could be supporting hazard reviews, anomaly resolution, re-flight assessments, and flight acceptance testing, or formulating technical findings and presenting them to program boards. The work is intellectually challenging, mission-critical, and directly tied to enabling safe human exploration beyond Earth orbit.

What We Are Looking For

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Metallurgy, Materials Science, Aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, or Systems) from an accredited institution, with a minimum of 7 or more years of related experience in Materials and Processes
  • Working knowledge of materials and processes for space applications, including materials selection (metallics and nonmetallics), design for corrosion prevention and electrical bonding, failure analysis, heat treatment, adhesive bonding, and contamination control
  • Familiarity with metallic and nonmetallic materials specifications, properties, and testing
  • Experience reviewing engineering drawings and specifications to ensure materials and processes requirements are met for spaceflight hardware
  • Overall M&P working knowledge across multiple systems such as propulsion, crew compartments, environmental life support, thermal, and electronic systems
  • Ability to assess vendor processes, define required changes, and recommend qualification and acceptance testing that satisfies verification of requirements
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to critically assess manufacturing and material processes and present findings to program boards
  • Willingness to learn and coordinate across multiple technical disciplines
  • Ability to assess and prioritize tasks, identify potential technical risks, and meet deadlines with limited supervision
  • Ability to work collaboratively and independently in a multidisciplinary team environment consisting of NASA civil servants and contractor employees
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products

Preferences:

  • Typically 10 or more years of related Materials and Processes experience for spacecraft
  • S. or Ph.D. in Engineering
  • Previous experience in material selection (metallics and nonmetallics) for electrical components, corrosion prevention, flammability prevention, oxygen compatibility, processes qualification, contamination control, and development, test, and evaluation for NASA and/or aerospace projects
  • Experience supporting hardware reviews, analysis, operation, hazard reviews, anomaly resolution, requirements verification, re-flight assessments, and flight acceptance testing
  • Experience implementing M&P system requirements into hardware design and developing verification and validation plans and statements
  • Previous experience directing, guiding, and coordinating a technical team
  • Familiarity with NASA JSC organizations, processes, and procedures
  • Experience with human space flight system engineering and integration practices
  • Experience participating in design reviews, technical interchange meetings, and anomaly investigations
  • Demonstrated leadership in fostering collaboration, driving clear technical direction, and…
