Overview
Airswift is looking for a Principal I&C Engineer for a 6‑month assignment with potential extension, working with a major LNG client in Houston. The Principal Instrument Engineer will be a member of the Capital Project Team (CPT) and report directly to the CPT Engineering Manager, responsible for the Quality Assurance and Quality Control (QA/QC) of Engineering Deliverables from Detailed Design through Commissioning and Startup.
Job Responsibilities- Review and comment on Specifications and Data Sheets, Detailed Design Deliverables, Procurement Packages, and Supplier Document Deliverables.
- Participate in Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs) and Site Acceptance Tests (SATs) of ICSS and other Instrumentation Systems.
- Coordinate engineering and design interfaces between Instrumentation and other discipline teams in a matrix, multi‑discipline project team environment.
- Review project deliverable documents for completeness and accuracy; check and approve Instrument design drawings.
- Ensure EPC Contractor meets all regulatory requirements in a timely manner, meets project schedule, and complies with code for instrument design, construction, and testing.
- Review other discipline and vendor print inter‑squad drawings, coordinate with discipline leads to ensure effective quality product.
- Review as‑built documentation and process for all Instrumentation work; represent Owner in responses to EPC Contractor Change Orders.
- Support Alarm Management, HAZOPs and HAZIDs, Process Trip Investigation during startup, and resolution of Post‑startup Process Control Design Issues.
- Provide input to configuration of graphical displays, Smartplant Instrument use on Train 4, and interface with existing Trains 1‑3 database.
- Review package unit inquiries, purchase order requisitions, unpriced requisitions, and purchase orders; address Technical Deviations from Project requirements.
- Participate in Contractor Engineering Audits for the Instrument Discipline.
- Strong written and verbal technical communication skills.
- Excellent planning and organizational skills, with ability to evaluate and prioritize multiple tasks.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with all levels of the organization, including operations, technical staff, plant management, contractors, and vendors.
- Strong interpersonal and conflict resolution skills.
- Work safely, efficiently, and with minimal guidance.
- Knowledgeable in tuning loops, process control, DCS systems, graphics, and as a Subject Matter Expert on Process Control and Distributed Control Systems.
- Knowledgeable in Cause and Effect (SIS interlocks), troubleshooting, analytical techniques, and cyber security.
15+ years of experience with process control automation systems (DCS) in an LNG export/import or petrochemical manufacturing facility; experience with Honeywell DCS.
Work Environment & Physical DemandsMust be able to wear all necessary PPE and work in a professional office environment within or outside an industrial plant. Required driving to other company work locations, moving throughout all areas of the facility, talking and hearing, entering confined spaces, working at elevated heights. A valid TWIC Card is required.
