Job Description
The Lead Process Engineer role within Ortloff Engineers COE is a mid‑level position that supports the development, innovation, commercialization, and project execution of Ortloff cryogenic natural gas processing technologies. Engineers within the COE support the full value chain from project inception to unit start‑up. The Lead Chemical Engineer develops and improves design practices, tools, and infrastructure to ensure competitive positioning. The role provides technical leadership and oversight while working closely with senior‑level engineers and management on licensed projects and key initiatives.

Reporting directly to the Fellow and General Manager, this position can be based in Houston, TX;
Midland, TX;
Rosemont, IL; or Tulsa, OK on a hybrid schedule. For the first 90 days, new hires are required to work 100% onsite Monday‑Friday.
- Provide technical leadership and expertise in chemical engineering.
- Lead the design, development, and implementation of chemical processes and solutions.
- Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to drive product development and improvement.
- Guide and support successful project execution.
- Stay updated with industry trends and advancements in chemical engineering.
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations and industry standards.
- Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline (science, technology, engineering, mathematics).
- 10+ years of experience in chemical engineering.
- Strong leadership and technical expertise in chemical engineering principles and practices.
- Ability to own, manage, and drive key initiatives and projects.
- Ability to recognize and engage key stakeholders appropriately.
- Solutions‑oriented with strong problem‑solving, decision‑making, and analytical skills.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Strong time‑management skills.
- Experience in product development and process improvement.
- Self‑driven, coachable, and eager to grow as a technical leader.
- Proficiency in process simulation software, primarily Honeywell’s Uni Sim.
- Advanced engineering degree in Chemical Engineering.
- 15+ years of experience in chemical engineering and 10+ years in gas processing.
- Experience in cryogenic gas processing, particularly NGL/LPG recovery.
- Experience in process licensing business model.
- Deep awareness of and ability to manage key stakeholder relationships as an individual contributor.
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects and initiatives.
- Experience with plant startup and unit operation.
- Ability to drive innovation and continuous improvement.
- Passion for safety, sustainability, and compliance.
The annual base salary range for this position is $125,000 - $156,000.
