Salary range: $180K-$210K, DOE
About the RoleA client of ours is seeking an experienced Senior Project Manager, Transportation, to join their team in McAllen, Texas. This position will focus on Texas highway and roadway projects, including project management, design delivery, client relationships, proposal support, and transportation business development.
The ideal candidate will have deep experience with TxDOT, toll agencies, RMAs, counties, and cities, along with the ability to lead transportation staff and manage projects from planning through final design.
About the CompanyOur client is a mid-sized civil engineering firm with offices in Houston, San Antonio, and McAllen. Although the firm will soon celebrate its three-year anniversary, it is made up of seasoned professionals who have worked together and delivered projects for years. In addition to delivering projects across Texas and in other states, the firm specializes in port of entry projects between the United States and Mexico.
Key Responsibilities- Manage highway and roadway projects from conceptual planning through schematic design, environmental approval, PS&E, and final design.
- Lead the design and delivery of large Texas transportation projects, including highways, roadways, schematics, plans, specifications, and estimates.
- Support efforts to grow the firm's client and project base with TxDOT, toll agencies, RMAs, counties, cities, and other transportation agencies.
- Write, review, and negotiate proposals with clients and reviewing agencies.
- Serve as a technical resource for complex transportation projects and provide guidance to engineers, task leaders, and project team members.
- Lead, mentor, and develop transportation staff while supporting a positive and productive team environment.
- Monitor the quality of design work and technical service delivery on transportation projects.
- Facilitate and participate in public meetings, stakeholder meetings, client meetings, and agency coordination meetings.
- Review and seal engineering projects while supervising the work of other engineers.
- Manage invoicing, project budgets, and financial performance to support on-time and on-budget project delivery.
- Work with clients, regulatory agencies, public officials, and other parties to determine project requirements and secure approvals.
- Stay current on regulatory changes and maintain working relationships with regulatory officials.
- Participate in client events, trade shows, conferences, and relationship-building activities.
- Attend meetings and make field visits on short notice when needed.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering required.
- Professional Engineer license in Texas required.
- Certification, or ability to become certified, for work categories in cited TxDOT groups required.
- 10 or more years of experience with current engineering principles and practices related to highways and transportation.
- TxDOT Transportation Project Management experience preferred.
- Experience managing transportation projects for TxDOT, toll agencies, RMAs, counties, cities, transit agencies, or other transportation agencies.
- Ability to manage projects from conceptual design through schematic and environmental approval, PS&E, and final design.
- Ability to coordinate engineering team members and task leaders for transportation schematics, plans, specifications, and estimates.
- Proficiency in Open Roads and other relevant transportation design software required.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, project management scheduling tools, and financial tools required.
- Experience reviewing and sealing engineering projects preferred.
- Ability to build and maintain relationships with TxDOT, transit agencies, transportation agencies, clients, and public officials.
- Excellent organizational, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Ability to apply new methods and technical approaches to transportation projects.
- Ability to contribute to a positive, team-oriented work environment through open communication, feedback, and collaboration.
- State Driver's License, state-mandated auto insurance, and dependable transportation required.
- Advanced degree in Engineering or a related field preferred.
- Specialty certification such as PMP preferred.
