Position Summary
The Project Engineer is responsible for supporting the design, development, qualification and continuous improvement of pressure control and wellhead equipment products. This role works closely with Engineering, Operations, Quality, Supply Chain and Sales teams to ensure products meet customer expectations, API standards and internal engineering requirements throughout the product lifecycle.
The ideal candidate will have experience within pressure control systems, wellhead equipment or API 6A-regulated manufacturing environments and possess strong technical, analytical and problem-solving skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Interpret customer specifications and engineering requirements to support product design, documentation and manufacturing execution.
- Support Engineering Work Requests (EWRs) and Engineering Change Notifications (ECNs).
- Develop, review and maintain engineering drawings, specifications, BOMs and technical documentation for existing and new products.
- Ensure all engineering deliverables comply with company standards, API requirements and customer expectations.
- Assist in field failure investigations, perform root cause analysis and recommend corrective and preventive actions.
- Investigate non-conformance reports (NCRs) and supplier deviation requests (SDRs), issuing appropriate dispositions including rework, use-as-is or scrap recommendations.
- Conduct equipment qualification and validation testing and prepare detailed engineering test reports.
- Develop and improve test methods to validate product performance, fabrication and assembly processes.
- Collaborate with cross-functional departments including Operations, Quality, Supply Chain, Service and Sales to support project execution and product improvement initiatives.
- Monitor and maintain compliance with API 6A, API Q1, ASME, ANSI and ISO standards.
- Identify opportunities for design optimization, process improvement and engineering innovation.
- Support technical troubleshooting and provide engineering guidance for manufacturing and field operations.
- Maintain accurate engineering records, specifications and revision-controlled documentation.
Education
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or related Engineering discipline required.
- 3-5 years of engineering experience within pressure control systems, wellhead equipment or API 6A-regulated manufacturing environments.
- Experience supporting product design, manufacturing and quality processes in oil & gas or heavy industrial industries preferred.
- Knowledge of API 6A, API Q1, ASME, ANSI and ISO standards.
- Understanding of geometric tolerancing (GD&T), drafting techniques and engineering documentation control.
- Experience with root cause analysis, corrective actions and quality investigations.
- Familiarity with stress analysis, qualification testing and product validation processes.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, schematics and technical specifications.
- Strong analytical, mathematical and problem-solving skills.
- Proficient with engineering software, Microsoft Office and ERP/document control systems.
This position operates primarily in a professional office setting with periodic travel to manufacturing facilities and field locations to support operations, investigations and customer needs.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.
- Ability to stand, sit, climb, bend, crouch and travel to operational field locations as required.
- Must possess strong visual and spatial awareness for reviewing technical drawings and equipment inspections.
- Experience in pressure control, wellhead or oil & gas equipment manufacturing.
- Exposure to welding, machining, fabrication and assembly operations.
- Experience supporting continuous improvement and product development initiatives.
- Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.
