Job Summary
The position participates in the design, development and modification of structures, equipment and systems for conversion, refurbishment, and upgrades to mobile offshore drilling units. Responsibilities include development of work packs, scopes of work, and procurement specifications, vendor expediting, and resolution of engineering issues arising in a global fleet.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and maintain project plans for mechanical, drilling and marine systems to include scope identification, definition, cost estimation, and work pack development.
- Create verified deliverables that explain scope, justify scopes, and hand over to execution personnel.
- Coordinate with and supervise OEMs and third‑party contributors to conduct surveys, site visits, vendor surveillance, and off‑site planning.
- Attend rigs, shipyards, worksites and vendor facilities for surveys to support project planning activities.
- Collaborate with OEMs and third‑party contributors on project estimating activities and cost reduction techniques.
- Maintain dialogue and interface with internal engineering stakeholders for scope validation.
- Plan and track project procurements with project managers and internal purchasing departments.
- Actively contribute to marketing bid support by providing well developed work scopes and accurate cost estimates for Project Cost Workbooks and Reactivation Cost Workbooks.
Minimum
Required:
HS diploma and technical school and/or military service training certifications in relevant subjects.
Preferred Level: Bachelor’s degree or higher.
Minimum Experience: 10 years relevant work experience with an offshore drilling contractor, aboard maritime vessels, or in a shipyard environment.
- Proficient with computer skills, including specialized engineering software suites for problem solving.
- Comfortable reviewing general arrangements, block diagrams, flow diagrams and other relevant OEM documentation used when developing work packs.
- Solid understanding of ABS, DNV, API, and related industry regulations and standards.
- Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills, with ability to manage multiple tasks and coordinate others.
- Effective written and oral communication skills.
- Self‑starter who can work independently and as part of a team, confident acting on assigned tasks with minimal supervision.
- Successful completion of pre‑employment drug screen.
- Successful completion of pre‑employment background check.
While the position is formally based in Houston, TX, extensive international travel is required; travel may be up to 60% of the year. Applications are welcome from qualified candidates worldwide.
