Systems Engineer, Software Engineer
Overview
The SCADA Specialist supports and maintains real-time SCADA systems that operate within North America for products and natural gas pipelines. Responsibilities include development of applications used for pipeline measurement and control center automation and collaboration with IT, Engineering, Control Center and Operations to meet customer requirements.
Responsibilities- Provide SCADA system administration and management as part of a team.
- Ensure KM SCADA procedures and standards are met.
- Analyze, design and implement SCADA related applications, HMI graphics, and reports in accordance with existing standards.
- Work with business groups or IT staff to develop data interfaces between business systems and SCADA applications.
- Coordinate with Engineering, Control Center, and Operations to ensure application, graphic, and report designs meet requirements.
- Provide hardware and software support for SCADA systems with IT personnel as needed.
- Collaborate with IT Infrastructure to review maintenance, diagnose problems related to OS and databases.
- Collaborate with IT Telecommunications to review network design, maintenance, and monitoring.
- Develop documentation related to design and use of applications, graphics, procedures, etc.
- Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering or Computer Science.
- Minimum 3 years of experience with SCADA, Automation or real-time systems support.
- Experience with current SCADA platforms (e.g., GeoSCADA, Ignition).
- Basic programming skills; proficient in at least one scripting language (Power Shell, JavaScript, Python) and familiarity with .NET.
- SQL database and stored procedure experience.
- Strong initiative, problem-solving skills, and ability to learn rapidly.
- Familiarity with IT, SCADA and telecom architectural standards; ability to apply Object Oriented methodologies in application development.
- Strong English communication skills; able to work in a team and manage multiple tasks.
- Strong organizational and documentation skills.
- Ability to work under pressure, troubleshoot effectively, and meet deadlines.
- Good teamwork, adherence to work schedules, and attention to detail.
- Work at a workstation with repetitive motion; occasional lifting of equipment may be required.
- Standard office environment; long hours during projects or startups; after-hours callouts as part of a group; occasional travel.
- Above minimum requirements, not required but advantageous: SCADA or automation experience in pipeline or terminal industries; understanding of PLC logic; networking experience within a telecom department.
- SCADA groups may have other systems and responsibilities by geography, including support for measurement applications and security card systems; general IT support for applications, servers, desktops, and printers.
