Job Summary

The Senior Piping Designer is responsible for leading piping design and drafting activities for plant, pipeline, and related facility projects. This role develops engineering drawings, design documentation, and material specifications while coordinating with project managers, engineers, contractors, and vendors to ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently, and within schedule and budget requirements. The Senior Piping Designer also provides technical guidance, supports project execution, and contributes to the development of company design standards and procedures

Job Description
  • Develop and maintain piping design and drafting deliverables for facility, plant, and pipeline projects.
  • Prepare Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs), Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), equipment layouts, plot plans, and equipment/instrument lists.
  • Assign equipment, instrument, valve tag numbers, and piping line numbers.
  • Resolve drawing development issues and update record drawings as required.
  • Support the development of project scopes, engineering/design scopes, and construction scopes of work.
  • Attend project meetings to understand project requirements and provide technical design input.
  • Assist in reviewing man-hour estimates and project schedules to support efficient project execution.
  • Coordinate the distribution and review of design packages among project stakeholders.
  • Provide design and drafting support for critical, fast-track, and preliminary project development efforts.
  • Communicate with vendors regarding material pricing, lead times, and availability.
  • Perform material take-offs and create parts lists to support procurement activities.
  • Develop material data sheets and generate material requisitions for project approval.
  • Maintain project design documentation and technical correspondence throughout project life cycles.
  • Participate in the development, maintenance, and improvement of company standard drawings.
  • Assist in developing specifications, procedures, and best practices for design and drafting activities.
  • Coordinate with project managers, purchasing personnel, inspectors, engineering firms, and construction contractors regarding design and construction issues.
  • Support project logistics and design coordination to ensure smooth project progression.
  • Generate Pre-Assessment Letters (PALs) for in-service weld approvals when required.
  • Provide drafting support for daily operational activities and coordinate work with CADD personnel.
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to team members on design tools, methods, and processes.
Skills Required
  • Advanced knowledge of piping design principles, drafting standards, and industry best practices.
  • Strong understanding of plant, pipeline, and facility design processes.
  • Experience developing PFDs, P&IDs, plot plans, and equipment layouts.
  • Proficiency with CAD/CADD software and engineering drafting tools.
  • Knowledge of piping systems, materials, valves, instruments, and equipment specifications.
  • Ability to perform material take-offs and develop material requisitions.
  • Strong project coordination and stakeholder management skills.
  • Experience reviewing engineering drawings and resolving design issues.
  • Understanding of construction methods and project execution processes.
  • Ability to interpret engineering specifications, codes, and standards.
  • Strong organizational, documentation, and record-keeping skills.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration abilities.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Education/Training/Certifications
  • Associate's degree or Technical Diploma in Drafting, Design Technology, Engineering Technology, or a related field required.
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline preferred.
