The Mechanical Engineer provides engineering expertise to the facilities management technical staff and to the BCM community Mechanical Engineer provides sound recommendations based on experience and engineering principles to solve complex (and sometimes simple) problems encountered in an academic medicine environment. This will include defining infrastructure capabilities and communicating these to a broad audience of medical researchers, clinical practitioners and administrative staff.
Must be able to envision solutions and physically solve problems during emergencies with the resources available on site. Must be available 24/7 to support and direct emergency response or scheduled equipment shutdowns. Must be on site to support operations in case of emergencies or shutdowns.
- Identifies project opportunities and writes justification reports for infrastructure maintenance and improvement projects with a focus on energy management/conservation.
- Provides engineering expertise and technical assistance on various projects.
- Performs engineering and design work on in-house construction projects.
- Reviews designs for projects prepared by outside engineering firms.
- Provides engineering supervision on the installation of Facility Services purchased equipment.
- Interacts with Capital Projects Team.
- Maintains updated blueprints, drawings, specifications, and repair and service information on Baylor owned and operated facilities.
- Visits construction sites on a regular basis or as needed to maintain a high standard of service and provides technical and administrative assistance to on-site property managers and/or administrators.
- Performs additional studies and cost analysis as directed.
- Works with Central Plant and Energy Management operations teams to identify and implement best practices and procedures to ensure the Central Plant and Facility HVAC systems are maintained and operated at maximum efficiency.
- Must be available 24/7 to support and direct emergency response or scheduled equipment shutdowns. Must be on-site to support operations in case of emergencies or shutdowns.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
- Eight years of relevant experience. Degrees in lieu of experience will not be accepted.
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- Registered as a Professional Engineer.
