SSCI is a Texas Licensed Professional Geoscience and Professional Engineering firm with licensing as a Leaking Petroleum Storage Tank (LPST) Corrective Action Specialist, UST Contractor and trainer in Texas and Louisiana, Asbestos Management Planner Agency, and Lead Risk Assessment Firm.
We are seeking a motivated Environmental Technician to join our team. This position is ideal for students or early-career professionals looking to gain hands‑on experience in environmental fieldwork, data collection, and environmental compliance.
As an intern, you will work alongside experienced environmental professionals and gain exposure to a wide range of field and technical activities that support environmental consulting projects.
Key Responsibilities- Assist with environmental sampling activities, including soil, groundwater, surface water, air, and waste materials
- Support environmental site assessments, inspections, and monitoring programs
- Collect field data and maintain accurate field documentation
- Assist with environmental compliance activities and reporting
- Operate, maintain, and calibrate environmental monitoring equipment
- Support GPS data collection, mapping, and site documentation efforts
- Assist with field logistics, site preparation, and equipment organization
- Follow company health and safety procedures and participate in safety meetings
- Work collaboratively with project managers, scientists, and field staff to support project objectives
- Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in:
- Environmental Science
- Biology
- Geology
- Natural Resources
- Environmental Engineering
- Civil Engineering
- Or a related field
- Strong interest in environmental consulting and field investigations
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
- Positive attitude and willingness to learn
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
- Experience using GPS equipment, GIS software, or environmental field instruments
- Previous fieldwork, laboratory, construction, or outdoor work experience
This position requires fieldwork and may involve:
- Walking long distances over uneven terrain
- Working outdoors in hot, cold, humid, or wet conditions
- Lifting and carrying equipment weighing up to 50 pounds
- Standing, bending, kneeling, and climbing as needed
- Occasional travel to project sites
