Project Engineer – Lunar Tools
Join the team that designs, develops, and validates lunar tools for NASA’s space missions.
Responsibilities- Develop and maintain project documentation, including status of drawings, procurements, and risks.
- Collaborate with design and analysis teams to ensure project requirements are met.
- Inspect hardware upon receipt to verify conformity with fabrication drawings/models.
- Build and test rigs and equipment as needed.
- Analyze test data and assist project management with configuration control of project documentation.
- Develop test procedures and coordinate with JSC organizations for flight certification of hardware.
- Work with the JSC community to develop integrated operational concepts.
- Create and deliver presentations.
- Report status, progress, and issues to the team lead within a collaborative environment.
- Perform other duties as required.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field.
- 2‑5 years of experience in the field or a related area.
- Experience creating requirements documents, functional requirements, and verification success criteria.
- Hands‑on experience with design, assembly, verification, testing, and operation of space hardware systems.
- Knowledge of mechanical and electrical system design, engineering drawings, material selection, and design software/tools.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office products.
- Experience designing and building EVA‑related hardware.
- Experience in testing and test buildup.
- Proficiency with CAD modeling software.
- Knowledge of machine shop techniques and manufacturing processes.
- Ability to produce test plans, data processing, and documentation.
- Experience with NASA flight hardware certification processes.
- Familiarity with Johnson Space Center (JSC) organizations, processes, and procedures.
- Self‑directed work capability.
- Proof of U.S. Citizenship or U.S. Permanent Residency may be required.
- Must be able to complete a U.S. government background investigation.
- Management has the prerogative to select at any level for which the position is advertised.
- Generally an office environment, with possible indoor or outdoor work as required.
- Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods (90% of time); may require lifting and carrying up to 25 lbs. (5% of time).
- Standard office equipment (PC, telephone, printer, etc.).
- Regular attendance in accordance with the established work schedule; ability to adjust schedule to meet peak periods and surge requirements.
- Professional behavior that enhances productivity and promotes teamwork and cooperation.
- Personal grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and not pose a safety risk.
