OverviewThe Director of Engineering will oversee all aspects and responsibilities of the Design Assist Group’s engineering and sales efforts. This role focuses on the continued structuring and operation of the engineering function as a cohesive unit, while prioritizing, conceptualizing, and monitoring the day‑to‑day management of simultaneous projects related to conceptual design, analysis, coordination with sales and estimating teams, and delivery of optimized designs within time and budget constraints.
The Director of Engineering will foster innovative solutions to customer needs and provide strong leadership that promotes collaboration, accountability, and “out of the box” thinking across the organization.
Key Responsibilities Building Partnerships, People & Teams- Create and maintain partnerships with sales, estimating, pre‑construction, and construction planning teams on bid opportunities requiring engineering expertise.
- Participate in partnership pulse surveys and 60‑day partner meetings to provide executive summaries demonstrating business needs are being met and schedules remain transparent.
- Teach, coach, motivate, and provide technical direction and guidance to engineering staff.
- Establish department policies and operating procedures.
- Resolve scheduling and resource conflicts while reviewing and approving major department programs and projects.
- Build and develop a highly skilled, cross‑functional team to support Design Assist, construction engineering, and construction design efforts.
- Formulate long‑term objectives and performance standards for the department.
- Align strategic objectives with the design/build team to develop forward‑looking engineering solutions.
- Build, create, and sustain documented design review QA/QC processes for all major design deliverables.
- Conduct and provide quarterly audits of review templates and engineering procedures.
- Develop methods to forecast design completion levels against project pull schedules.
- Provide job matrix evaluations for project complexity and scheduling efficiency.
- Ensure final engineering work products are technically sound, defendable, and optimized for project requirements.
- Provide construction engineering services when required by the company.
- Monitor engineering services through field pulse surveys, incident tracking, and budget performance.
- Manage connection engineering processes for bids and awarded projects.
- Monitor and report material and piece count budgets.
- Validate informational milestones according to project schedules.
- Ensure rational and cost‑effective design alternatives and value engineering solutions.
- Support business development efforts by providing competitive engineering solutions.
- Oversee erection procedures provided by third‑party erectors and ensure annual audits and incident reporting are completed.
- Minimum fifteen (15) years of structural engineering experience within related industries.
- Minimum five (5) years in an engineering management or leadership role.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from an accredited college or university required.
- Master’s Degree in Structural Engineering preferred.
- SE License in AZ and/or CA, or equivalent licensure required.
- Experience in structural modeling using at least three of the following software platforms:
- RAM
- SAP
- ETABS
- STAAD
- RISA
- Other related analytical software
- Extensive knowledge of:
