The Process Safety Management (PSM) Consultant is expected to utilize expertise in the area of process design, analysis, and operations to deliver quality results to clients. Focus for this role is on process safety management around pressure relief systems. Emphasis is placed on quality of the work product and the efficiency of work execution. Candidate will determine the limitations and capabilities of process units and their pressure relief systems and recommend actions or mitigation plans.
The PSM Consultant will report to either a site manager or project manager who will establish clear expectations in terms of work quality, efficiency, and technical development.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES- Perform engineering calculations associated with pressure relief system (PSV/RV/relief valve) sizing
- Identify over pressure scenarios for various types of process equipment and protected systems
- Calculate relief loads for various types of over pressure scenarios
- Perform analysis for vent headers, relief headers an/or flare headers and knock out drums
- Utilize process simulation tools
- Interpret data from piping & instrument diagrams (P&IDs), process flow diagrams (PFDs), plot plans, piping isometrics, mechanical design information
- Understand and comply with all Provenance and client safety procedures that govern the work being performed
- Perform staff-level assignments in a process engineering team environment
- Perform relief system engineering analyses with little oversight
- Develop less-experienced staff
- A Chemical, Environmental or Mechanical Engineering degree
- Three to seven years of Relief Systems or Process Safety Management experience in a petrochemical plant or refinery, preferred
- Knowledge in application and compliance requirements of regulatory codes (OSHA, EPA, etc.) and industry standards and recommended practices (API, NFPA, ASME, etc.), preferred
- Strong technical communication ability, both written and oral
- A Chemical, Environmental or Mechanical Engineering degree
- Three to seven years of Relief Systems or Process Safety Management experience in a petrochemical plant or refinery, preferred
