Senior Instrumentation & Electrical Designer (Contract)

Location: Onsite – Houston, TX 77002

Duration: Temporary/Contract Assignment

We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Instrumentation & Electrical Designer to support engineering and capital projects for plant, pipeline, and related industrial facilities. This role is responsible for leading design and drafting activities, coordinating project deliverables, and ensuring compliance with industry standards and company specifications. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in a project engineering environment and possess strong expertise in instrumentation and electrical design for industrial facilities.

• High School Diploma or GED required
• Two‑year drafting degree, technical school training, or equivalent experience in CADD drafting software, systems, and methodologies
• Minimum 10 years of relevant experience in a Project Engineering environment
• Senior‑level experience supporting instrumentation and electrical design projects
• Experience specifying equipment for engineering and construction projects
• Strong knowledge of industry standards, drafting practices, and engineering documentation

• Lead and coordinate instrumentation and electrical design and drafting activities for capital and maintenance projects
• Assign instrument tags, electrical equipment tags, conduit numbers, and cable numbers
• Prepare and maintain:
  • Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs)
  • Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs)
  • Facility plot plans
  • Equipment and instrument indexes/lists
• Resolve drawing development issues and update record drawings as required
• Support development of Engineering, Design, Construction, and Project Scopes of Work
• Participate in project meetings to define scope, gather requirements, and provide technical design input
• Assist with project scheduling, manpower estimates, and design package coordination
• Perform material take‑offs, create parts lists, develop material data sheets, and generate material requisitions
• Coordinate with project managers, engineers, contractors, inspectors, purchasing personnel, and vendors throughout project execution
• Maintain technical documentation, design records, and project correspondence
• Contribute to the development and maintenance of standard drawings, specifications, and drafting procedures
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to designers and CADD personnel
• Support preliminary project development, budget‑critical initiatives, and fast‑track project execution

• Strong communication and organizational skills
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced project environment
• Experience supporting plant, pipeline, terminal, or industrial facility projects preferred
• Must be willing and able to travel by air and/or automobile to facility sites as required
