PRIMARY FUNCTION
The Avionics Technician performs avionics maintenance and troubleshooting on aircraft (back shop environments as required).
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS- Use NASA’s automated maintenance data system (NAMIS) to maintain equipment records and document maintenance actions for all avionics and aircraft electrical repairs to NASA‑assigned aircraft.
- Maintain, test, inspect, repair, and integrate aircraft electrical, electronic, computer systems, research test equipment, and payloads in NASA‑assigned research aircraft platforms.
- Inspect, test, and operate avionic and electrical test equipment to ensure serviceability and proper operation; keep test equipment calibration schedules up to date.
- Familiar with Engineering Work Orders (EWOs) and complete required instructions in a timely and accurate manner.
- Remove, disassemble, repair, clean, treat for corrosion, assemble, and reinstall avionics and aircraft electrical components and accessories.
- Update, program, and maintain navigational and flight‑management system databases on assigned aircraft.
- Dispose of hazardous materials and waste in compliance with state, local, and federal environmental standards and regulations.
- Practice good housekeeping, tool control, and Foreign Object Damage (FOD) prevention in accordance with company and NASA policies and procedures.
- Inspect and maintain aircraft batteries and test equipment.
- Perform scheduled and unscheduled aircraft maintenance inspections and repairs as required.
- Perform aircraft ground‑support duties, including towing, marshalling, and jacking aircraft.
- Maintain control of tools, report missing, lost, or unattended tools, and inventory tools on a regular basis.
- Comply with safety rules and regulations while performing day‑to‑day maintenance; promptly report accidents, injuries, safety violations, and/or unsafe practices or procedures to supervisor.
- Document maintenance as per Quality Assurance (QA) and established regulatory requirements.
- Provide oversight and have the ability to direct and train others in the completion of aircraft‑related maintenance tasks.
- May include Designated System Inspector (DSI) duties and troubleshoot systems as required to meet customer needs.
- Knowledge of advanced electronic principles and circuit analysis; interpret schematic diagrams, engineering drawings, and charts of assigned systems.
- Trace signal flow and understand interrelationships of circuits; possess demonstrable soldering, cable, crimp and harness (CCH) fabrication skills.
- Beginner to intermediate computer skills, specifically using Microsoft Office Suite; ability to learn additional computer skills or software programs.
- Working knowledge of advanced software applications is preferred; ability to enter data accurately into databases.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence and to use general office equipment such as fax, phone, copier, scanner, printers.
- Ability to follow a process and perform basic mathematical computations.
- Strong professional customer‑service skills, including active listening, prompt service and follow‑up.
- Strong decision analysis and problem‑solving skills; ability to draw conclusions and justify decisions.
- Effective oral and technical written communication skills to clearly communicate information to others.
- High degree of self‑motivation and ability to work independently; ability to multitask.
- Interpersonal skills necessary to work effectively and cooperatively with all levels of management and staff; routinely interact with other crew members.
- Ability to learn and understand corporate policies and procedures and how they relate to Yulista Tactical Services, LLC goals.
- Ability to communicate issues to management.
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Preference for Level1 Certification in ESD Protection (Electrostatic).
- FAA Airplane and Powerplant certification required; FCC GROL certification may be required.
