Job Summary
In this role, you will plan, develop, coordinate, and review plant design and piping work on large projects with specialized requirements. You will optimize facility layout based on diagrams, client needs, current technology, and operational and maintenance requirements. Your technical input will ensure configuration compliance, procurement requirements are met, and complex issues are resolved. This position is designated as part‑time telework per our global telework policy and will require at least three days of in‑person attendance per week at the assigned office or project.
MajorResponsibilities
- Plan, develop, coordinate, and review plant design and piping engineering work on medium‑size projects or assignments in support of a global business unit.
- Develop conceptual designs for plant design and piping projects with specialized or unique requirements.
- Examine and analyze pipe configurations for ANSI/ASME code compliance and interpret new or special regulations, codes, standards, criteria, and performance data.
- Optimize facility layout based on piping and instrument diagrams, client requirements, current technology, and operational and maintenance requirements.
- Provide technical input to meet procurement requirements.
- Prepare or oversee the preparation of discipline estimates and work plans in accordance with project scope, schedule, and budget, and support implementation and performance reporting.
- Review and approve key design documents, supplier drawings and data, material specifications, drawings, and change orders for the assigned project.
- Mentor plant design and piping personnel by providing on‑the‑job training for their professional development and participate in special technical educational and training programs as directed.
- Requires a bachelor’s degree (or international equivalent) and 10–13 years of relevant experience or 14–17 years of relevant work experience.
- Prior working experience with Piping Material Specification software (Smart Plant Reference Data SRD) on a medium or major sized project.
- Understanding of Engineering Department Procedures and Bechtel design guides; broad knowledge of engineering to plant constructability as applied to construction methods and materials.
- Extensive knowledge of applicable industry/regulatory codes and standards, i.e., ASME, API, AWWA, ASTM, and MSS, and design and/or layout criteria.
- Extensive knowledge of precedents in the discipline and related disciplines.
- High standard of oral and written communication and proficiency with MS Office applications.
- Willingness to travel on business trips in support of projects.
- Prior work experience and responsibility for the supervision on a medium or major size project in engineering management at Bechtel.
- Knowledge of typical Engineering Department Procedures, Design Guides, and appropriate standard computer applications and administrative practices.
- Prior experience working on a large industrial manufacturing facility (semiconductor, fabs or data centers).
- Experience developing, managing, and maintaining BIM piping Fab Parts with defined LOD specifications (LOD 100–500) for plant design and piping.
