Job SummaryThe Sr Geoscientist should be a self‑starter that is comfortable contributing in a fast‑paced, multidisciplinary environment. They must have demonstrated experience in generating exploration and exploitation prospects through proficient use of seismic interpretation and multi‑disciplinary data to recommend new development and infill wells. They will also have a demonstrated ability to map regionally in addition to detailed prospect interpretation; integrating well‑control and seismic is required.
The Sr Geoscientist will need to document results and develop a concise supporting presentation to clearly communicate recommendations to management, partners and regulatory authorities.
The Sr Geoscientist will demonstrate a record of varied technical exposure to many global basins & petroleum systems with career focus to date in the Gulf of America. The ideal candidate will have a record of supporting new field development in addition to generating near‑field exploration (NFX) and green‑field prospects in the Deepwater Gulf of America. The candidate should be experienced in well planning with a demonstrated ability to work across disciplines including Drilling, Subsurface and Regulatory.
This role will work in our Houston Corporate office and may work up to two (2) days a week remote.
Responsibilities- Assess and recommend drilling of new wells and infill wells to effectively and efficiently produce field(s) – Infill and new well delivery
- Interpret seismic and well logs, generate maps and cross sections, conduct risk and reserve/resource analysis, and present supporting work to management.
- Pre‑drill well preparation and planning. Interface with Drilling, Subsurface, Regulatory and Partners
- Assist with well planning and provide operations support in drilling/rig program and update field results and reserves as needed
- Peer assist; collaboration both within the team and external support
- Have an understanding of depositional systems and experience generating volumetric assessment for resource estimation
- Structure and coordinate technical interactions with partners and regulatory authorities to ensure alignment in delivery of business goals
- Master’s degree in Geology or Geophysics
- Minimum 7 years’ experience in oil and gas exploration and development with 5 years’ experience in Deepwater GOA preferred
- Demonstrate the ability to thrive in a team environment, placing the team’s needs ahead of the individual
- Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously in a fast‑paced environment is essential
- Demonstrated proficiency in 3D seismic interpretation, amplitude analysis, well‑log correlation in salt basin
- Experience with well planning and supporting well operations
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Experience interpreting on pre‑stack data, AVO analysis, time‑lapse/4D seismic, and seismic inversion is desired
- Experience with seismic reprocessing, basin modeling and petroleum systems is a plus
- Demonstrated proficiency in Kingdom and/or Petrel is a plus
- Risk assessment utilizing statistical software such as RoseRA is beneficial
The individual is required to follow all applicable safety precautions. Work is performed almost entirely in a controlled (i.e., inside) environment and does not typically subject the incumbent to any hazardous/extreme elements; some positions may require regularly moving or transporting items weighing up to 25 lbs. around the office for various needs.
