Position OverviewThe Senior Geotechnical Engineer supports Kiewit Corporation business by applying expertise in geotechnical engineering, soil mechanics, site development, and foundation design on Power, Industrial, and Water treatment facilities. Projects include Carbon Capture, Hydrogen, Natural Gas Generation, Food and Beverage, Material Processing, and Raw and Wastewater Treatment across North America. The engineer works with civil, structural, architectural, estimation, scheduling, and construction teams to analyze and design solutions, produce or review engineering reports, and direct the work of staff geotechnical engineers.
LocationThis position is based in Lenexa, KS or Houston, TX (Energy Corridor). Travel to project offices and work sites is required, with periodic field assignments as business necessitates.
Responsibilities- Lead engineering assignments supporting Kiewit Corporation business.
- Support pursuit phase development of innovative and cost-effective design solutions.
- Collaborate with a diverse team of geotechnical engineers, geologists, and technicians to capture and implement design lessons and innovations across multiple business units.
- Work with interdisciplinary engineering teams and lead detailed geotechnical design.
- Train and develop staff geotechnical engineers.
- Master’s degree in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering or equivalent experience required.
- 20+ years of geotechnical engineering experience with a focus in Site Characterization, Site Development, Shallow and Deep Foundations.
- Design-build and EPC project experience is a plus.
- Registration as a Professional Engineer in the U.S.
- Experience with subsurface exploration, site development, earth retention, slope stability, soft soils, ground improvement, deep foundations, shallow foundations, seismic and liquefaction assessments, machine foundation and/or tank foundation design is an asset.
- Experience working in a team setting and directing the work of others.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team environment.
- Physical ability to access all points of a construction site in a range of climates and conditions.
- Experience with AI agents and tools preferred.
- Ability to travel to project sites as business necessitates.
- Work productively and meet deadlines.
- Communicate and interact effectively and professionally with supervisors, employees, and others.
- Perform work safely and effectively, following oral and written instructions, including safety signs and equipment use policies.
- Work during normal operating hours to meet deadlines; overtime and weekends may be required.
