Are you a licensed Mechanical Engineer with deep experience in building systems, diagnostics, or failure investigation?
A specialist engineering consulting firm is seeking a Forensic Mechanical Engineer to investigate mechanical system failures, evaluate equipment performance, and provide expert technical analysis across commercial, industrial, and complex property environments.
This is an opportunity to step into highly technical, investigation-led work where no two assignments are the same. Projects involve determining root cause, assessing damages, evaluating system performance, and supporting insurance, legal, and ownership stakeholders with defensible engineering opinions.
What You’ll Be Doing- Conduct forensic investigations into failures involving HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, and mechanical building systems
- Perform on‑site evaluations to determine root cause, extent of damage, and repair considerations
- Analyse equipment performance issues and mechanical system deficiencies across commercial and industrial assets
- Produce clear, technically robust reports, findings, and engineering opinions
- Work directly with insurers, attorneys, owners, and technical stakeholders on complex assignments
- Manage investigations independently while contributing to broader multidisciplinary projects
- Support ongoing client relationships through high‑quality technical delivery
- Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) required, or ability to obtain via reciprocity
- 7+ years of experience within mechanical, MEP, building systems, or consulting engineering
- Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic capability involving mechanical system performance or failures
- Experience with investigations, claims, commissioning, condition assessments, litigation support, or forensic engineering is advantageous
- Strong written communication and technical reporting skills
- Comfortable operating independently in both field and consulting environments
- Exposure to technically challenging, investigation‑driven engineering work
