Job Description & How to Apply Below
The Geophysicist has the ability to undertake more complex geophysical tasks independently, such as interpreting seismic data, developing quantitative interpretation models, and participating in drilling operations. This role also supports subsurface characterization and development within the Permian Basin by integrating seismic, well, and geological data to drive exploration and development decisions.
Responsibilities- Seismic Data Interpretation:
Independently interpret seismic data (2D/3D) to identify fault systems, strati graphic traps, and reservoir targets; generate and utilize seismic attributes where appropriate. - Data Integration:
Analyze and integrate geological and geophysical data (seismic, well logs, cores) to build consistent subsurface interpretations and support geomodeling workflows. - Well Logs and Core Data:
Apply understanding of well logs and core data to define lithology, porosity, permeability, and fluid content, and integrate with seismic interpretation. - Geologic & Velocity Modeling:
Assist in development of geological models, including time-depth conversion and velocity frameworks. - Well Planning & Drilling Support:
Support well planning, including target definition and depth uncertainty; participate in drilling operations, log evaluation, and post‑well analysis. - Project Leadership:
Manage small technical projects and coordinate with geology, reservoir engineering, petrophysics, geomechanics, and operations teams. - Prospect Identification:
Support identification and evaluation of exploration, development, and recompletion opportunities. - Geoscience Software:
Apply advanced features of software such as Petrel and utilize tools like GeoX/Rose RA and Paleoscan. - Data Quality & Seismic Improvement:
Evaluate seismic data quality and support reprocessing or acquisition efforts. - Mentoring:
Provide guidance to junior geoscientists. - Reporting & Communication:
Prepare reports and present findings to stakeholders.
- Seismic Interpretation:
Competent in seismic interpretation, including structural mapping and basic attribute analysis. - Advanced Analysis:
Proficient in interpreting geological data and developing models. - Well Log and Core Interpretation:
Ability to integrate well log and core data into subsurface models. - Software Proficiency:
Solid skills in Petrel and related tools. - Engineering Awareness:
Basic understanding of reservoir and completion engineering and how geoscience impacts development decisions. - Business Acumen:
Intermediate knowledge of petroleum economics and Value of Information concepts. - Technical Communication:
Expanding ability to present to technical and non‑technical audiences. - Collaboration:
Ability to work across disciplines within an asset team environment.
- Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Geology or Geophysics or related field;
Geoscience Master’s degree preferred. - 5+ years of relevant experience.
