Transmission Estimator
Our client is seeking a Transmission Estimator to support high-voltage transmission planning, project development, and capital budgeting efforts. This role will focus on developing preliminary cost estimates for transmission and substation projects using engineering judgment, cost modeling, historical data, and cross-functional collaboration to support early-stage project decisions.
Responsibilities
- Develop preliminary Class 3 cost estimates for transmission and substation projects based on planning inputs, studies, and conceptual designs.
- Prepare detailed cost breakdowns by major components, including labor, materials, right-of-way, and construction support.
- Perform comparative cost evaluations across project alternatives.
- Apply assumptions, contingencies, and historical cost data to support early-stage project planning and decision-making.
- Evaluate transmission project scope, including structure types, conductor configurations, foundation requirements, routing constraints, right-of-way acquisition, and environmental limitations.
- Collaborate with internal teams across transmission planning, substation engineering, transmission engineering, project management, and operations.
- Utilize and maintain estimating tools and spreadsheets based on historical project data and current cost inputs.
- Update unit costs, assumptions, and methodologies based on project feedback and market conditions.
- Support the standardization of estimating practices and cost tracking across projects.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field required.
- Experience in transmission, substation, utility engineering, or estimating.
- Knowledge of high-voltage systems, specifically 138 kV and above.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with excellent attention to detail.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications, and data.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills.
- Knowledge of industry standards and engineering best practices.
- Strong organizational and time management abilities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience developing Class 3 or planning-level estimates for utility infrastructure.
- Experience with PLS-CADD.
