- Under minimal supervision, conduct preventive maintenance, repair, installation, commissioning and general servicing of systems, including detailed troubleshooting.
- Maintain high levels of customer satisfaction through direct, on‑site customer interface.
- Mentor control technicians, service technicians, and mechanical technicians on building automation activities.
- Properly complete required project and service documentation and reports.
- Provide customers with the highest level of service to solve building inefficiencies and resolve service‑related items.
- Act as a trusted advisor to customers, delivering solutions and outcomes at the time of service.
- Diagnose and repair complex control systems malfunctions, requiring extensive knowledge of electronic or digital controls and ability to test and write modifications in multiple systems software languages.
- Consult with customers through data gathered and site assessments, provide field proposals for retrofits, upgrades, and enhancements.
- Assist sales by providing technical recommendations for sales leads.
- Manage assigned work to meet professional and efficient execution of time and customer satisfaction.
- Report problems or changes to management immediately.
- Interface with branch manager, service manager, service project manager, or subcontractors on projects to coordinate activities ethically and professionally.
- Provide sketches of field changes and discrepancies for engineering corrections and drawings; may assist with job layouts and bid proposals.
- Install and modify software and graphics; communicate with customers upon arrival and before leaving the work site.
- Promote the sale of add‑on work, adhere to all Johnson Controls and customer safety standards, and provide safety leadership and instruction to technicians.
- Train customers in control systems operations, deliver manuals and documentation for training needs, and provide mentorship for certification of Controls Technicians and Service Technicians.
- Compile job documentation (certificate of completion, training forms, certificates, punch lists) and conduct extensive self‑study to improve and maintain technical proficiency.
- Assist in the design, configuration, creation of flow diagrams, sequences of operations, bills of material, network layouts, and electrical schematics as required.
- Help with software program development, project close‑out documentation, submittals, and equipment schedules.
- Select, order, and track delivery of materials; assist in loading and commissioning of controllers.
- Validate complete system functionality, troubleshoot problems with subcontractors and other trades, and provide field change information for as‑built drawings.
- Participate in release meetings, provide recommendations for facility efficiency, upselling opportunities, and quotes to support recommendations.
- Dedicated member of a North America Branch team willing to learn and responsible for system troubleshooting, repair, and aftermarket services.
- Minimum of six (6) years of Commercial Controls troubleshooting experience in the HVAC industry (buildings, chiller plants, and systems).
- Graduation from a vocational school program or associate’s degree in a technical field, or two years’ experience in servicing electronic and/or mechanical systems.
- Demonstrated ability to install and service electronic control systems and HVAC equipment.
- Effective communication skills to represent Johnson Controls on customer sites.
- Ability to explain technical information to both technical and non‑technical audiences.
- Demonstrated effective writing skills and understanding of programs and software applications.
- Knowledge of control theory, automatic temperature controls, building automation systems, and other building subsystems.
$30–$39 per hour, dependent on education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities.
