Role Description

The Principal Metallurgist is a senior technical leader responsible for leading metallurgical testing, failure analysis, and support integrity engineering services for pipelines. This role will manage our workshop operations, lead materials testing and examination programs, provide expert input to pipeline integrity services, fitness-for-service evaluations, and root cause investigations. The Principal Metallurgist will be assigned targets focused on product/service development, work completion, and team performance.

Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage workshop operations and personnel.
  • Develop and maintain analysis and testing procedures.
  • Plan, perform, supervise, and interpret material testing and examinations.
  • Perform failure analysis on pipe and components to identify causal factors, degradation mechanism, and root cause.
  • Translate data and analysis into practical conclusions and recommendations.
  • Perform work in accordance with industry standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Provide metallurgical expertise in pipeline integrity assessments including material input, fitness-for-service evaluation, and defect assessments.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to support clients’ regulatory and operations demands.
  • Evaluate welding procedures and qualifications.
  • Meet annual business objectives.
Qualifications
  • 7+ years of on-the-job experience in pipelines.
  • BS in Material Science, Materials Engineering, Metallurgy, or equivalent.
  • Preferred Masters Degree in Material Science, Materials Engineering, Metallurgy, or equivalent.
  • Registered Professional Engineer in State of Texas.
