Based at our global headquarters in Houston, TX, the Senior Staff Mechanical Engineer serves as a recognized subject matter expert in the design and development of advanced MOCVD tooling. This role leads high‑impact engineering programs and partners closely with leadership to solve complex technical challenges and advance Met Ox’s next‑generation manufacturing platforms. The engineer drives architecture, influences technical direction, and ensures delivery of robust, scalable equipment solutions aligned to process and manufacturing needs.

Key Responsibilities Technical Leadership (Tool Building & MOCVD)
  • Drive architecture, design, and delivery of complex mechanical systems for MOCVD and related deposition platforms.
  • Anticipate future design challenges and develop scalable, high‑performance solutions.
  • Guide design decisions across vacuum, thermal, and precision mechanical systems.
  • Translate process and materials requirements into robust, manufacturable tool designs.
  • Establish and advance best practices in DFx (Design for Manufacturability, Assembly, Reliability).
Engineering Strategy
  • Shape development processes, design standards, and engineering best practices for tool building.
  • Influence technical direction for MOCVD platform evolution and equipment roadmap.
  • Identify opportunities to improve system performance, reliability, and cost.
  • Drive innovation in tool design to reduce technical risk and accelerate deployment.
Program Management & Execution
  • Lead multi‑team engineering initiatives from concept through build, integration, and production.
  • Define and manage project scope, timelines, and technical deliverables.
  • Identify and mitigate technical risks across complex programs.
  • Partner with leadership to align engineering execution with company objectives.
Collaboration & Cross‑Functional Impact
  • Partner with Process, R&D, Manufacturing, and Equipment Engineering teams to ensure alignment between tool capability and process requirements.
  • Lead resolution of complex, cross‑functional technical issues.
  • Communicate technical trade‑offs, risks, and recommendations clearly to stakeholders.
Mentorship & Technical Culture
  • Coach and mentor engineers across teams and functions.
  • Elevate technical rigor and foster a culture of engineering excellence.
  • Serve as a go‑to expert for complex problem solving and design reviews.
  • Support development of engineering talent and technical capability across the organization.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related field.
  • 10 years of engineering experience.
  • Advanced degree may be substituted for required experience on a year‑for‑year basis, depending on relevance and level.
  • Prior experience designing or building MOCVD, PVD, or similar semiconductor or thin‑film deposition equipment.
  • Demonstrated expertise in vacuum systems, thermal systems, and precision mechanical design.

Physical Demands

This position requires sitting at a desk and viewing a computer screen for extended periods while working or performing other office tasks. Ability to move around the office, including occasional standing, walking, and bending to retrieve documents, attend meetings, or use office equipment. Some light lifting may be required, up to 20 lbs.
