Project Engineer P2 – Space Systems

Job Description

The Project Engineer will support NASA as part of the JSC Engineering, Technology, and Science (JETS) II contract within the Survival and Thermal Systems section of the Engineering Department. This role involves immersion in human spaceflight and deep space exploration programs, ensuring that services exceed all standards and expectations. You’ll collaborate with a passionate team on innovative solutions, contributing to system development and certification.

Key responsibilities include:

• Developing project documentation and maintaining status of drawings and procurements.
• Working with systems engineering to ensure test strategies provide sufficient performance data.
• Inspecting hardware on receipt to verify match with fabrication drawings/models.
• Building test rigs and equipment as needed.
• Performing all system testing.
• Developing test plans and test reports.
• Scheduling testing with test facilities.
• Coordinating with procurement personnel and vendors to order and secure procurements.
• Analyzing test data.
• Assisting project management with configuration control of project documentation.
• Developing test procedures and working with various organizations across JSC for flight certification of hardware.
• Collaborating with the HLS program and provider to develop integrated operational concepts.
• Developing presentations.
• Planning logistics, manufacturing, and procurement.
• Reporting to the project manager and lead systems engineer on progress, issues, and support.
• Performing other duties as required.

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering; typically 5‑10 years of experience in the field or related area.
• Experience with the development of project planning documents.
• Experience with the design, assembly, verification, testing, and operation of space hardware systems.
• Knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures in the space hardware field (mechanical/electrical system design, engineering drawings, material selection, design software and tools).
• Ability to prepare written documents and present verbally at various meetings.
• Familiarity with Microsoft Office products.
• Experience with cost and budget analysis.
• Experience working in an integrated product team.

• Familiarity with Johnson Space Center (JSC) organizations, processes, and procedures.
• Prior experience working in a system development project/program.
• Familiarity with feasibility assessments and trade studies.
• Understanding of the Moon2
  
  Mars mission and concept of operations.

Proof of U.S. Citizenship or U.S. Permanent Residency is required. Must be able to complete a U.S. government background investigation.

International travel may be required. Possible straight‑time overtime and a 9/80 work schedule (every other Friday off).

Work will be conducted indoors in an environmentally controlled facility. Job tasks are performed in close physical proximity to other people.
