We are seeking a Corrosion Subject Matter Expert (SME) to lead the development, optimization, and field application of corrosion mitigation technologies for oil & gas systems. This role bridges laboratory research, formulation development, and field deployment to ensure corrosion control solutions are technically robust, field-proven, and economically viable.
About the RoleLocation:
Beasley, TX
Employment Type:
Full-Time
A key focus of this role is developing corrosion inhibitor formulations that perform reliably under real-world oilfield conditions, including complex fluid chemistries and dynamic operating environments. The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in corrosion mechanisms, inhibitor chemistry, and translating lab results into successful field applications.
Responsibilities- Develop and optimize corrosion inhibitor formulations and related chemistries with a strong focus on field performance across upstream and midstream applications
- Design products that are effective under challenging conditions (HPHT, high salinity, multiphase flow, shear, and contaminants such as CO₂, H₂S, and solids)
- Lead laboratory and pilot testing using advanced corrosion evaluation techniques, including Rotating Cylinder Electrode (RCE), Rotating Cage Autoclave (RCA), Linear Polarization Resistance (LPR), Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS), weight loss testing, autoclave testing, and flow loop systems
- Ensure laboratory testing protocols closely simulate field conditions to improve predictability and reliability of product performance
- Diagnose and mitigate corrosion issues in field systems (pipelines, tanks, wellbores, and surface facilities), including CO₂ corrosion, H₂S corrosion, MIC, and under-deposit corrosion
- Support field operations by troubleshooting corrosion-related failures and recommending data-driven corrective actions
- Collaborate with manufacturing and process engineering teams to scale up formulations and ensure consistent product quality and performance
- Work closely with international R&D teams to leverage global expertise, harmonize testing protocols, and accelerate technology development
- Analyze corrosion monitoring data (coupons, probes, fluid analysis) to identify trends, root causes, and optimization opportunities
- Evaluate and implement new chemistries, raw materials, and corrosion mitigation technologies to expand product capabilities
- Develop and standardize test methods, SOPs, and best practices for corrosion evaluation and inhibitor performance
- Document and communicate findings through technical reports, and provide actionable recommendations to internal teams and customers
- Author technical papers, contribute to intellectual property development, and present findings at industry conferences (e.g., AMPP/NACE and other corrosion-focused forums)
- Provide technical leadership on corrosion science, industry trends, and regulatory requirements
- Champion safety by identifying process hazards, supporting PSM programs, and ensuring compliance with regulatory and company standards
- B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or related field
- 5+ years of experience in corrosion engineering, oilfield chemistry, or asset integrity management
- Strong expertise in corrosion mechanisms and mitigation strategies (CO₂, H₂S, oxygen corrosion, MIC, under-deposit corrosion)
- Proven experience in corrosion inhibitor formulation and translating lab performance to field success
- Hands‑on experience with corrosion testing techniques, including RCE, RCA, LPR, EIS, and high pressure/high-temperature autoclave systems
- Experience supporting field operations, failure analysis, and root cause investigations
- Familiarity with industry standards (e.g., AMPP/NACE), regulatory frameworks (OSHA, EPA), and safety management systems (PSM)
- Track record of technical contributions through publications, patents, or conference presentations is strongly preferred
- Strong communication skills with the ability to translate complex technical data into practical field guidance
- Deep expertise in corrosion science and inhibitor technology
- Strong focus on field‑applicable formulation development
- Applied problem‑solving in field and manufacturing environments
- Cross‑functional and global collaboration
- Data‑driven decision‑making and root cause analysis
- Continuous improvement and innovation mindset
- Technical leadership and external thought leadership
- Commitment to safety, compliance, and operational excellence
