Mechanical Engineer - Buildings

Responsibilities

• Develop mechanical designs for buildings, including HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems.
• Lead the planning, design, and commissioning of building HVAC and plumbing systems.
• Lead whole building energy modeling and sustainability requirements reporting.
• Coordinate with other support disciplines and regional offices.
• Assist project managers with project management and follow quality assurance and control plans.
• Travel periodically to project sites.

• Knowledge of mechanical engineering and sustainability principles.
• Mentor and train technical staff.
• Interface with clients on project design, delivery, and construction.
• Manage project budget and schedule compliance.
• Oversee mechanical design of building projects throughout the lifecycle from concept through construction.
• Utilize BIM design software to produce construction drawings.
• Use Microsoft Excel for design calculations.
• Manage multiple assignments concurrently.
• Maintain time management and product quality.
• Follow quality assurance and quality control plans.
• Engage in continuing education and learning related to project needs.

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or architectural engineering with a mechanical focus from an ABET‑accredited university or college.
• Passed the Fundamentals of Engineering exam.
• 5‑10 years of building design and construction industry experience.
• Knowledge of mechanical engineering principles related to building mechanical designs.
• Proven experience overseeing mechanical designs, including detailed plans and specifications for building projects.
• Technical competence in building mechanical systems including HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems.
• Strong communication skills.
• Experience with Autodesk Revit.
• Proficiency with MS Office Suite.

• Licensed Professional Engineer.
• Experience with AIA Master Spec.
• Knowledge of Federal Agency design criteria.
