Design Engineer

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for an Applications Design Engineer based in United States.

This role provides an opportunity to support the development of advanced electrical distribution solutions by combining engineering expertise, customer requirements analysis, and innovative design thinking. You will work closely with sales, design, mechanical, and production teams to create customized solutions for complex power applications. The position focuses on low and medium voltage switch gear, automation, communication systems, and power distribution technologies. You will apply engineering principles to evaluate specifications, develop technical solutions, and support successful project execution.

• Provide pre-order engineering support, including preliminary drawings, communication diagrams, sequences of operation, and bills of materials.
• Review customer plans, technical specifications, and scopes of work to ensure alignment with available products and engineering requirements.
• Collaborate with design engineering, mechanical engineering, and production teams to develop customized solutions for unique applications.
• Support product development initiatives by providing technical recommendations for new products and enhancements.
• Build and maintain libraries of standard design details, tools, and CAD resources to improve application efficiency.
• Provide technical consultation and guidance to sales and engineering teams throughout project life cycles.
• Deliver product and application training to internal teams and customers.
• Ensure designs comply with applicable industry standards, including NEC, UL, and IEEE requirements.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on engineering processes, documentation, and solution development.

The ideal candidate is an electrical engineering professional with experience in power distribution products, switch gear design, and application-focused engineering. They should have strong technical knowledge, communication skills, and the ability to work independently while collaborating across multidisciplinary teams.

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) or equivalent technical experience.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in applications engineering, design engineering, field service engineering, or related power industry roles.
• Experience designing or supporting power products, including switch gear, switchboards, panel boards, or similar electrical distribution systems.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD and the ability to interpret mechanical assembly drawings.
• Strong understanding of three-phase electrical power systems, including distribution, protection strategies, control systems, and rotating machinery.
• Experience with PLC and HMI programming, power studies, and protection coordination is preferred.
• Knowledge of communication hardware and protocols, including Ethernet networking, Modbus, and IEC 61850.
• Familiarity with electrical standards and codes such as UL 891, UL 1558, UL 508A, IEEE C37.20, and the National Electrical Code.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and technical evaluation skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication abilities with the confidence to collaborate with customers and internal stakeholders.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities, work independently, and contribute effectively within a team environment.
