Mechanical Engineer, Quality Engineering, Product Engineer, Manufacturing Engineer
We are seeking an experienced Lead Mechanical Engineer to lead the design, development, qualification, and ongoing improvement of downhole production and completion tools used in oil and gas well applications.
This position will take ownership of complex mechanical engineering projects throughout the full product lifecycle—from initial concept and detailed design through prototyping, qualification testing, manufacturing, field deployment, and sustaining engineering. The Lead Mechanical Engineer will serve as a technical leader within the engineering team, providing guidance on mechanical design, materials, manufacturing, testing, and field performance.
The ideal candidate is a highly motivated, hands‑on engineer with a strong background in downhole tools and new product development. This individual should be comfortable leading technical projects, mentoring other engineers, solving complex engineering challenges, and working in a fast‑paced environment.
Key Responsibilities- Lead the design and development of mechanical systems, assemblies, and components for downhole production, completion, and intervention applications.
- Own engineering projects from concept development through design, prototyping, qualification testing, manufacturing, field deployment, and sustaining support.
- Perform detailed engineering calculations and mechanical analysis to ensure designs meet functional, performance, reliability, and customer requirements.
- Provide technical leadership and guidance to engineers and cross‑functional team members throughout the design, manufacturing, assembly, testing, and operational phases.
- Develop engineering layouts, concepts, specifications, and detailed designs for new products and modifications to existing equipment.
- Lead and actively participate in technical and design reviews, evaluating design alternatives and recommending the most effective engineering solutions.
- Lead prototype assembly, test setup development, laboratory testing, and product qualification activities.
- Develop test procedures, acceptance criteria, inspection requirements, and validation plans to confirm product performance against defined requirements.
- Review and approve engineering drawings, assemblies, and technical documentation with a focus on functionality, manufacturability, assembly, serviceability, and reliability.
- Partner closely with manufacturing and operations teams to resolve production challenges and improve product quality and manufacturability.
- Support the development of design specifications, installation procedures, commissioning plans, assembly instructions, and repair documentation.
- Troubleshoot field‑related product issues, lead root cause investigations, and develop corrective actions and engineering solutions.
- Provide technical recommendations and best practices to support the safe and reliable operation of equipment in the field.
- Initiate, review, and approve engineering change notices, test requests, qualification documentation, and technical reports.
- Support the maintenance, modification, and continuous improvement of existing product designs.
- Mentor and provide technical direction to less experienced engineers and designers.
- Lead projects with minimal supervision while coordinating effectively across engineering, manufacturing, quality, operations, and other functional teams.
- Maintain a strong focus on safety, quality, and environmental compliance throughout all engineering activities.
- Travel to field locations as needed to support product testing, qualification, deployment, and troubleshooting.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
- Minimum of 7+ years of mechanical engineering experience, with 10+ years strongly preferred.
- Significant experience in new product development and full‑lifecycle mechanical product engineering.
- Strong knowledge of mechanical design principles and engineering practices, with the ability to apply both analytical and practical problem‑solving skills.
- Experience designing downhole oil and gas tools, ideally including production tools, completion tools, wireline tools, gas production or separation systems, and related downhole…
