Job Description
Meade is seeking an accomplished Principal Mechanical Engineer to serve as a technical leader and Engineer of Record (EOR) for mechanical systems on complex data center projects. This individual will be responsible for leading design efforts, overseeing project delivery, and mentoring junior engineers. The role requires deep technical knowledge of mission‑critical HVAC, cooling, and mechanical infrastructure systems, as well as a proven ability to lead multidisciplinary teams through design, coordination, and construction phases.
Key Responsibilities- Serve as Engineer of Record (EOR) for mechanical design on data center projects.
- Lead the design and engineering of HVAC, chilled water, and other mission‑critical cooling systems.
- Develop, review, and approve technical drawings, specifications, and submittals.
- Coordinate with internal design teams and external stakeholders including clients, architects, and contractors.
- Oversee mechanical design from concept through construction, ensuring quality, accuracy, and compliance with codes and standards.
- Conduct system analyses, equipment selections, and energy efficiency evaluations.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior and mid‑level engineers.
- Manage project budgets, schedules, and deliverables to ensure on‑time, high‑quality outcomes.
- Review and seal design documents as required under state licensure.
- Support business development efforts through proposal writing, client presentations, and technical input.
- 8+ years of experience in mechanical engineering design, with at least 5 years focused on data centers or mission‑critical facilities.
- Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license required and in good standing.
- Demonstrated experience acting as Engineer of Record (EOR) for mechanical systems.
- Strong leadership skills with proven experience managing and mentoring engineering teams.
- In-depth knowledge of ASHRAE standards, building codes, and energy modeling principles.
- Proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD, and mechanical design software (e.g., Carrier HAP, Trace 700).
- Excellent communication and client‑facing skills.
- Experience with hyperscale or colocation data center projects.
- Knowledge of sustainability and energy efficiency practices.
- Familiarity with commissioning processes and field inspections.
This position is available to candidates residing in the following states: AL, AZ, AR, FL, GA, IN, MI, MO, NV, OH, OK, SC, TX, UT, VA, WA, WV. Compensation and benefits are subject to eligibility requirements and may vary based on location and applicable laws. The pay range for this position will be provided in accordance with applicable state and local laws.
Actual compensation will be determined based on factors such as skills, experience, qualifications, internal equity, geographic location, and business needs.
The estimate pay ranges for this role are as follows:
- Virginia: $150,000 - $191,000
- Washington: $167,000 - $211,000
