Process Safety Engineer

Position: Process Safety Engineer / Process Safety Program Lead

Summary:

The Process Safety Engineer / Process Safety Program Lead is responsible for developing, implementing, and continuously improving critical process safety management programs. This role will lead initiatives related to Process Safety Management (PSM), Mechanical Integrity (MI), Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS), Risk-Based Inspection (RBI), and Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) integration. The successful candidate will serve as a technical resource, driving compliance, reliability, risk reduction, and continuous improvement while mentoring engineering personnel and strengthening the overall process safety culture.

• Lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of Process Safety Management (PSM) systems and programs.
• Support the development and enhancement of the overall process safety framework.
• Perform technical evaluations to identify and mitigate process safety risks.
• Develop and implement Process Safety Barrier (PSB) calculations and associated risk reduction strategies.
• Conduct and support facility siting evaluations and assessments.

• Lead the launch, implementation, and ongoing development of Mechanical Integrity (MI) programs.
• Develop inspection strategies, inspection frequencies, and risk-based inspection programs to ensure equipment integrity and regulatory compliance.
• Establish and maintain inspection and maintenance methodologies based on industry standards and risk assessments.
• Develop and execute Management of Life Cycle (MLC) programs and perform associated risk-based assessments.

• Facilitate and support Safety Integrity Level (SIL) determinations and evaluations.
• Develop, review, and optimize Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS) to ensure appropriate risk reduction.
• Apply risk-based inspection and assessment methodologies to process equipment and facilities.
• Evaluate process safety risks and recommend mitigation strategies based on sound engineering principles.

• Lead the integration of Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) recommendations into Maximo.
• Convert PHA action items into sustainable inspection, maintenance, and reliability programs.
• Coordinate with maintenance, operations, and engineering teams to ensure effective implementation of PHA recommendations.
• Drive improvements in asset reliability through data-driven inspection and maintenance strategies.
• Provide technical coaching, mentoring, and guidance to engineering personnel.
• Support professional development within the engineering organization.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to foster a strong safety culture and continuous improvement mindset.
• Serve as a subject matter expert for process safety, mechanical integrity, and risk management initiatives.

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related technical discipline required.
• Significant experience in Process Safety Management, Mechanical Integrity, inspection programs, and risk management.
• Experience developing and implementing Mechanical Integrity programs.
• Demonstrated experience integrating PHA recommendations and action items into Maximo or similar asset management systems.
• Proven experience developing inspection strategies and risk-based maintenance programs.
• Experience coaching, mentoring, and developing engineering teams.

• Strong knowledge of Safety Integrity Level (SIL) determinations and Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS).
• Experience with Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) processes and recommendation management.
• Knowledge of Risk-Based Inspection (RBI) and risk-based assessment methodologies.
• Experience performing Process Safety Barrier (PSB) calculations.
• Experience conducting facility siting evaluations and assessments.
• Strong understanding of asset integrity management and reliability principles.
