Job Description & How to Apply Below
The Product Design Engineer will own the mechanical design integrity and quality performance of a core product line, serving as the primary technical authority for product-related issues, owning drawings, specifications, and BOMs, leading root cause investigations, and driving permanent corrective actions across safety, quality, delivery, and cost.
This is a high-ownership product engineering role with full authority over mechanical design changes within the value stream.
What You'll Own- Mechanical Design Integrity — Own the performance, reliability, and manufacturability of the product line, including drawings, specifications, and BOMs
- Root Cause & Corrective Action — Evaluate production, field, and supplier issues to determine root cause ownership and drive resolution to closure using 5 Why, Fishbone, and other structured methods
- Engineering Change Ownership — Own and execute ECOs, drawing updates, and BOM changes required to correct product issues or improve performance
- NCR/MRB Decision Authority — Serve as the decision authority and escalation point for non-conforming material, ensuring timely and appropriate disposition
- Supplier Quality Partnership — Partner with Supplier Quality Engineering to resolve supplier-related defects, validate components via First Article Inspection, and evaluate supplier changes for form, fit, and function impact
- Kaizen & Continuous Improvement — Lead and support Kaizen activities focused on First Pass Yield improvement, defect reduction, and cost reduction; provide hands-on engineering support directly on the production line
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET accredited university
- 5+ years of experience in a mechanical design role within a manufacturing environment
- Strong understanding of mechanical design principles, manufacturing processes (machining, casting, assembly), and material selection / machine elements
- Hands-on CAD and drawing creation experience (Creo, AutoCAD, or equivalent)
- Experience with BOM management and engineering change processes
- Root cause analysis and structured problem-solving experience
- Experience working cross-functionally in a manufacturing or value stream environment
- Lean and Toyota Production System (TPS) experience is highly preferred — this is a true TPS operation, and demonstrated hands-on lean / continuous improvement experience is the strongest differentiator
- Strong problem-solving mindset with a focus on eliminating root causes, not just symptoms
- Ability to prioritize work based on business impact
- Strong communication skills across engineering, manufacturing, and supply chain teams
- High ownership mindset with accountability for product and quality outcomes
