Solutions/Applications Engineer
Theoris Services is assisting our client in their search for a Solutions/Applications Engineer to add to their growing team. Our client is a leader and innovator in distributed energy. They have responded to long-term trends in electricity by becoming the first smart-grid supplier to US energy consumers. We seek those who share our commitment to customer service, innovation, and ingenuity. The Solutions/Applications Engineer serves as the technical lead for customer-facing power generation and microgrid solutions, owning system architecture, technical scope, and solution development from early customer engagement through project handoff.
This role combines strong electrical engineering fundamentals with customer consultation, technical leadership, and business strategy. Solutions/Applications Engineers work directly with customers to understand operational challenges, develop practical solutions, and communicate complex power system concepts in a clear and actionable way. This is not a traditional design engineering role focused primarily on calculations, drafting, or detailed design packages. Instead, Solutions/Applications Engineers serve as trusted technical advisors, balancing reliability, performance, constructability, schedule, and commercial objectives to deliver executable solutions.
We're looking for engineers who enjoy leading technical discussions, solving complex problems, and serving as the technical leader in the room.
Responsibilities:
- Lead development of microgrid and distributed generation solutions for customer proposals, including system architecture, equipment sizing, and technical scope
- Develop electrical system designs, including single-line diagrams, layouts, and medium/low voltage system configurations
- Perform and support power system evaluations (load, capacity, reliability) to inform design decisions
- Serve as the primary technical interface with customers, leading discussions, whiteboarding sessions, and presentations
- Collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, EPC, R&D, and product teams to develop optimized, executable solutions
- Prepare and communicate technical content for proposals, including drawings, narratives, and supporting documentation
- Evaluate design tradeoffs across cost, performance, constructability, and schedule
- Participate in site visits and customer engagements to validate design assumptions
- Conduct peer reviews to ensure quality and consistency of technical designs and estimates
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or related field
- 4+ years of experience in power systems, distributed generation, microgrids, or related fields
- Strong knowledge of low-voltage and medium-voltage power systems, generation systems, and electrical distribution
- Experience developing and interpreting electrical system diagrams, including single-line diagrams and power system layouts
- Ability to evaluate technical challenges from a systems perspective and translate requirements into practical engineering solutions
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to effectively engage both technical and non-technical audiences
- Ability to work collaboratively across multiple disciplines and functions
- Physical requirements and working conditions:
Must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer; stamina to maintain attention to detail despite interruptions; strength to lift and carry files weighing up to 20 pounds; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone/computer
Desired:
- Experience with power system studies such as load flow, short circuit, or reliability analysis
- Familiarity with power system modeling tools (e.g., ETAP, PSCAD, PSS/E, MATLAB/Simulink)
- Experience with electrical equipment design and layout, including switch gear and interconnection systems
- Understanding of protection schemes, relaying concepts, and system coordination
- Proficiency with AutoCAD or similar design tools
- Experience…
