Job Summary:

The Control and Automation Team (CAT) Engineer is responsible for the specification, design, development, and testing of the overall Integrated Control and Safety System (ICSS) or a specific subsystem that may include but not limited to the Distributed Control System (DCS), Safety Instrumented System (SIS), the process Fire and Gas System (FGS), and subsystem Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC). The CAT Engineer will work with project instrument, electrical, mechanical, and process engineers to identify all process control, safety requirements, and system interfaces.

Major

Responsibilities:
  • Plans, schedules, conducts, and coordinates detailed phases of automation work for control systems discipline on a project.
  • Provides oversight of the ICSS within the project team.
  • Responsible for the conceptual, preliminary, and detailed design of the ICSS scope of work comprising large-scale process control (DCS), safety instrumented systems (SIS), process fire and gas systems, process control data network systems and supporting fiber optic telecommunications infrastructure.
  • Develops system requisitions, perform technical bid evaluations, and recommendations for selection of the ICSS.
  • Maintains continuous interface with work in progress by reviewing or approving design basis, key drawings, design concepts, and 3rd party vendor schedules and budgets within the automation team.
  • Provides feedback of active work and interfaces with project personnel, Engineering Group Supervisor, and project management on a routine basis to ensure the ICSS project execution is consistent with Bechtel work practices, procedures, and design guides.
  • Ensures compliance with a project's Execution Plan, Project Procedures Manual, and with Engineering Department Procedures (EDPs). Review project Design Control Check List (DCCL) and Design Review Notices (DRNs).
  • May provide input to project proposals such as, quantities, schedules, and budgets for the ICSS.
  • Facilitates technical discussions with third parties (client, suppliers, and regulators).
  • Communicates complex technical issues and recommends solutions to upper management.
  • May supervises and mentor engineers and designers by providing appropriate professional and technical guidance and on-the-job training for their professional development.
  • May require short term or long-term assignments in support of system testing and/or commissioning and start – up (domestic and international)
Education and Experience Requirements:
  • BS or MS in Electrical Engineering (Control Systems or Process Control), Mechanical, Chemical, or equivalent experience.
  • A Texas or other state PE license is desirable
  • TUV FS Eng or CFSP / CFSE certification is desirable
  • Proven ability to exercise a high degree of individual initiative, leadership, discretion, and judgment
  • Ability to work under the pressure of changing priorities and deadlines
  • Strong oral communication and interpersonal skills to effectively negotiate, problem-solve, and formulate solutions are required.
  • Strong written communication skills to produce technical documentation and business correspondence meeting professional standards are required.
