In response, Jacobs is expanding its Energy & Power Solutions team to address the challenges of decarbonization, grid modernization, and the transition to a cleaner and more secure energy future.

We have multiple opportunities for engineering and project management professionals who want to apply and further develop their skills while working closely with utility and power development clients across our growing energy transition portfolio.

As a Project Manager – Transmission and Substation, you will lead multidisciplinary teams responsible for delivering projects from concept through engineering design, procurement, construction management, commissioning, and closeout. Projects may include new and modified high-voltage transmission lines, substations, and associated power infrastructure.

You will be accountable for the successful delivery of assigned projects while maintaining alignment with client expectations, project scope, schedule, budget, quality, safety, and applicable regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare and/or update project financial forecasts, schedules, status reports, and other required deliverables in accordance with client and Jacobs project management processes.
  • Lead project meetings and ensure meeting minutes, decisions, action items, and responsibilities are documented and communicated to the project team.
  • Develop and maintain strong client relationships by ensuring expectations are understood and met and by proactively addressing client concerns.
  • Monitor project performance against approved scope, budget, schedule, and quality requirements; identify, assess, and mitigate risks and issues as they arise.
  • Manage project communications and respond promptly to inquiries from clients, project stakeholders, management, and support teams.
  • Promptly notify appropriate project stakeholders when a project is forecast to exceed approved budget or schedule or when significant risks or issues are identified.
  • Perform and/or facilitate project administrative activities, including purchase orders, change orders, work-status verification, accruals/unvouchered liabilities, invoice reviews, and overall project status updates.
  • Coordinate engineering design development, drawing and document submittals, and quality review processes.
  • Lead the resolution of emergent field issues in accordance with applicable codes, environmental requirements, safety standards, and project requirements.
  • Track and manage compliance with applicable regulatory and non-regulatory project requirements.
  • Support the resolution of siting, permitting, municipal, environmental, and other regulatory matters.
  • Facilitate contractor and vendor sourcing activities, including development and issuance of RFPs, bid evaluations, and award recommendations.
  • Identify, develop, and pursue business opportunities with existing and prospective clients.

Here’s what you’ll need

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited program, or a bachelor’s degree in business, management, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of project management experience involving one or more of the following transmission lines, substations, electric distribution, protection and controls, system planning, or reliability projects.
  • Experience with project management processes and practices used within the electric utility or power industry.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage project scope, schedule, budget, risk, quality, and stakeholder expectations.
