About bp
bp operates at the heart of the global energy system, helping countries meet their energy needs and serving millions of customers every day. With world-class assets, technology, trading capability and partnerships, we deliver energy at scale today while investing with discipline in the energy transition.
About Capital Development and wells
The Capital Development technical function is part of bp's upstream business and includes both subsurface and wells.
Our wells strategy has four focus areas:
Safety First, People, Business Ownership and Responsible Operator. They should be at the center of everything we do. Together, they drive performance, support growth, build a safe, sustainable future and strengthen the value we create for bp.
About early careers
Your talent. Your skills. Your big ideas (and even bigger dreams). We know you have a lot to give. So, we will make sure you get a lot in return. From next-level experiences to global impact. From inspiring teammates to exceptional support - we offer graduate and internship roles across multiple areas.
About the One Wells program
The One Wells Early Careers program is designed to develop our graduate engineers into competent wells professionals. During this program, our graduate engineers will follow a structured development offer that accelerates the acquisition of foundational technical skills, experience and knowledge; offers opportunities to apply those skills in the business world and provides a framework of 'non-technical' skills development to build personal effectiveness.
The program supports the transition from university to discipline professional through challenging development assignments, a growing toolkit of transferable skills for the future and a dedicated network of support to help you succeed.
This is a three-year program with a 12-18-month offshore rig rotation. Performing a field role has been shown to be the best way to maximize learning and development for Early Careers Wells Engineers. For most roles in GoA, you should expect to perform an offshore rig rotation and often occur soon after joining. Specifics of your role will be provided upon joining.
About the Role
As a Wells Engineer in GoA, you will be at the forefront of the energy industry, designing and optimizing the wells that unlock energy safely and sustainably. You will work in multidisciplinary teams, where you will learn from industry leading engineers and geoscientists. We are looking for curious, analytical minds ready to learn and innovate in a high-impact field.
While on the Early Careers Program, you will:
- Learn the ropes: get hands-on training in well design, operations and cutting-edge technology
- Solve real world challenges: help optimize well plans to deliver safe and reliable wells while maximizing efficiency and minimizing environmental impact
- Work with experts: Collaborate with subsurface engineers, geologists, data scientists, and operations teams to turn subsurface data and previous learnings into actionable delivery strategies
- Gain field exposure: spend time on our offshore rigs seeing theory come to life
- Travel: participate in our global wells Catalyst event, where you will meet your peers from around the world and build a lasting network of peers to support you throughout your career at bp.
- Innovate: Contribute to a wide range of wells activities, including exploration drilling, development wells, interventions in existing wells, and safe abandonment of old wells.
Drilling Engineering, Completion Engineering and Intervention / Subsea Engineering.
What does a Drilling Engineer do?
Drilling engineers conceptualize, design, plan and oversee well construction, ensuring wells are drilled efficiently, cost-effectively and, above all, safely for people and the environment.
- You design the well: How many hole sections? What path should it take? What materials will withstand the temperatures and pressures? What drilling fluids and cement will provide barriers?
- You troubleshoot in real time during well construction: If the drill hits unexpected obstacles (like a high-pressure sand or tool failures), you support the offshore team by adjusting the plan and mobilizing contingencies.
- You leverage technology to drive efficiency and reliability: From intelligent drilling tools to reducing emissions, you'll help innovate the future of energy.
Completion engineers design the system that converts a drilled wellbore into a safe and efficient production or injection system. They "tune up" the wells to maximize production safely and efficiently.
As a completion engineer, you will:
- Design how wells are prepared for production: selecting the right equipment and techniques to optimize flow.
- Implement smart…
