Citation is one of the largest privately-held independent oil and gas acquisition, development and production companies in the United States. Founded in 1981 by Forrest
E. Harrell, Sr., Citation has built a significant portfolio of mature, long-life producing properties through a combination of disciplined acquisitions, focused operations and subsequent development. The Company has an enviable track record in attracting and retaining high-quality talent. This is the result of a stable, long-term business model and a corporate culture that emphasizes working smart, “doing business the right way,” and rewarding both performance and technical achievement.
We are looking for talented and driven individuals to join our team, where you will have the opportunity to make a tangible impact helping to shape the future of our company and industry.
We are seeking an experienced Geologist to support the development and optimization of Citation’s conventional assets in the Permian Basin. This role will be responsible for identifying and advancing capital projects across mature fields, with a strong emphasis on reservoir characterization, water flood operations and optimization, and integrated subsurface evaluations.
The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with conventional reservoirs and a demonstrated track record of supporting water flood and/or CO2 flood operations. This individual will partner closely with reservoir, production, and operations engineers to evaluate field performance, create detailed formation mapping, identify development opportunities, and generate economically viable capital projects.
- Lead geological evaluations of conventional Permian Basin assets, with a focus on mature reservoirs and water flood recovery projects.
- Support and optimize enhanced oil recovery (EOR) programs, including water flood and/or CO2 flood operations.
- Generate and maintain high-quality subsurface maps, including structure, isopach, net pay, OOIP, and other reservoir-specific analyses.
- Integrate geological, petrophysical, production, and engineering data to characterize reservoirs and identify development opportunities.
- Perform detailed petrophysical interpretation, including porosity, water saturation, lithology, and net pay analysis.
- Conduct volumetric calculations and reservoir assessments to estimate reserves and evaluate potential capital investments.
- Identify and justify economic capital projects, including drilling, recompletions, pay adds, flood pattern optimization, and other field development opportunities.
- Collaborate with reservoir and operations engineers to evaluate field performance and maximize recovery.
- Provide technical recommendations and present subsurface evaluations to asset teams and management.
- Support acquisition and divestiture evaluations.
- Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Geoscience; advanced degree preferred but not required.
- Significant experience working conventional oil and gas assets;
Permian Basin experience valued. - Strong understanding of carbonate reservoirs and conventional field development strategies.
- Demonstrated experience with enhanced oil recovery programs, with emphasis on water flood operations; working knowledge of CO2 flood operations is a plus .
- Proven expertise in reservoir mapping, reservoir characterization, and integrated subsurface analysis.
- Advanced petrophysical interpretation skills, including well log analysis and net pay determination.
- Experience performing volumetric calculations and reserve assessments.
- Track record of generating and advancing capital projects from concept through execution.
- Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams and communicate technical findings to both technical and business stakeholders.
The successful candidate will be a technically focused geologist who understands the unique challenges and opportunities associated with mature conventional Permian Basin assets. The candidate will be passionate about working with large subsurface datasets to produce timely and articulate mapping results. They will bring a deep expertise in reservoir characterization and enhanced oil recovery while demonstrating the ability to translate subsurface insights into actionable capital projects that create long-term value.
