MPD Engineer II
The MPD Engineer II independently supports Managed Pressure Drilling operations by applying proficient engineering analysis, hydraulic modeling, well planning support, operational troubleshooting, financial tracking, and field coordination skills. This role partners with field teams, drilling engineers, client representatives, and project leaders to optimize MPD performance, maintain compliance, and support reliable operational execution.
Responsibilities include:
- Independently perform daily review of current rig assignments using RigCLOUD, tour sheets, and operational updates to identify performance trends and improvement opportunities.
- Provide feedback to field supervisors and field representatives on operational problems, procedural opportunities, and performance improvement actions.
- Report MPD operational status, deliverables, and performance updates to internal stakeholders and client representatives as assigned.
- Maintain MPD section trackers, KPI reporting, utilization monitoring, and end-of-well report inputs to support operational and revenue visibility.
- Assist in the design and planning of MPD systems for specific wells or projects with moderate independence and senior review for complex work.
- Perform engineering calculations and simulations to support MPD operations, including flow modeling, Basis of Design development, rollovers, surge/swab calculations, cementing plan support, and IMM documentation.
- Prepare and update technical reports, operational procedures, modeling outputs, and project documentation as operating conditions change.
- Collaborate with drilling engineers, HSE, field personnel, and cross-functional partners to optimize well designs and drilling plans.
- Provide remote technical support and troubleshooting assistance to field engineers and rig teams, including after-hours support as operationally required.
- Analyze data to help determine causes of downhole or operational issues such as fracture gradient challenges, kick zones, equipment problems, controls issues, and operator communication gaps.
- Document lessons learned and potential opportunities for improvement; support process and procedure streamlining through software or workflow enhancements.
- Ensure assigned equipment, procedures, field support activities, and personal training remain aligned with Nabors HSE standards and safety tools.
- Report daily costs to the billing team, manage DIR documentation for MPD invoices, and help ensure capture of consumable charges.
- Create or support work orders and project numbers for wells to enable accurate revenue and time capture.
- Project MPD revenue monthly for assigned operations, escalating discrepancies or changes in operational assumptions.
- Support inventory readiness, equipment coordination, personnel deployment schedules, and MPD Project Manager initiatives as required.

- Proficient understanding of drilling engineering, well control principles, MPD technologies, and rig operations.
- Hands-on experience using engineering software for hydraulic modeling, well control analysis, drilling simulations, or related technical evaluation.
- Experience preparing technical reports, operational procedures, KPIs, daily cost support, and project documentation.
- Ability to provide remote support during extended or irregular hours, including nights or weekends, when required.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- 4+ years of MPD, drilling engineering, or well control experience.
- Experience with Safe Vision, Leidar Plan, Drillbench, or similar MPD modeling and drilling simulation software.
- Experience communicating directly with client representatives, field supervisors, and cross-functional drilling teams.
